For live reports right now go to the Weather Channel (If you have Dish it's #214) because they have several people all along the Texas coast giving live reports now and probably for the next several days. It looks pretty bad there now and it's supposed to get worse. We're keeping everyone there in our prayers....

  8. I was a seller out there in Giddings, today, Friday. Less than 10% of the sellers even showed up. You could swing a cat with a 10 foot tail and not hit anybody. The weather was great, cloudy but no rain or strong wind. It was mostly the few sellers visiting and checking each other's goods so it was like a small spike in the morning and went downhill to nothing at all in the afternoon. The public parking never filled up a half row and I suspect many of those were seller's vehicles. I left at 3:45 PM and I'm not going back tomorrow.

The news media is doing a good job of scaring folks from going to Giddings.

Wow - way to focus on the important stuff! ; )

I remember living through one of those big ones in Navy flight school in Corpus Christi. If you had 5 hours in a plane, they gave you one to fly out of the area! (Seriously!). We learned how to land on the way across country. Good times

God bless you guys. Park your cars on the highest hill you can find!

The eye is over Rockport (near Corpus Christi). So far, just rain and wind gusts here in Houston.

    1. Just had buddy Mercury Charlie near Austin call concerned and say best we move our pickup from his flood prone yard, so good buddy Mark Gustafson to the rescue and hauled the 32 to his dry shop at a moments notice. Thanks good buddy ,we owe you big time. Stay safe you guys ,. We have had rain down under and flooding for months with rain sodden pastures and lakes where they should not be. But our flooding pales to insignificance in the threat of Harvey.
    2. We are watching the radar hour by hour, it seems so slow moving.
    3. Just cant credit 30" of rain , it seems like an inland Tsunami.

Latest from NW Houston , it's going to rain and flood up here...sad ...just happened 1 1/2 years ago....the winds are supposed to be dying down and that's damn good news...ground was already soft....trees are not friendly with that wind...I'd say just stay aware of the wind....that's all we can do....

The weather guy on MSNBC just said that Victoria, TX already has gotten 16" of rain and could receive as much as 56" by the middle of next week. Those are crazy numbers-hopefully it won't happen....

Just rain and wind in south Houston (just inside the loop), My areas not prone to flood, but 5 miles away, at HWY 288, it floods all the time. So, I'm anticipating being in or at least close to home, if I go out.

The Hill Country area of Texas holds several world records for inches/feet of rainfall per hour/day. This isn't over for several more days. Stay out of moving water. I have know folks who died or lost family members n the aftermath of hurricanes down here. Let's don't die stupid.

This looks worse than Katrina and Sandy combined. Harvey is a HUGE storm in size and the amount of water it carries. 30+" of rain and the fact that it may double-back makes it very dangerous. The path itself that is projected is quite compact.

I'm in the general east coast hurricane path and look at the NOAA site every day and track everything. There is something perched over central Florida right now with a 30% of becoming a hurricane. Probably not a threat to us since it is over land.

So I'll call Harvey the worst storm I've ever watched, possibly up with the one we had in 1938... before my time. Be safe all people of Texas!

I was in Houston on business during that flood 1 1/2 years ago, saw more rain in an hour then this dry lander sees in a year. Not pretty, can't even imagine what this thing will bring ya.
My nephew lives in Port Lavaca which looks like right were the eye came ashore and my niece is in Corpus. Both high tailed it out of there to my brother's place in San Angelo. Guess it will probably be days before they know how their houses and belongings fared. Nephew's is the biggest concern.
Hoping the best for all my Texas neighbors!

  22. About now, this morning (Saturday) Houston east side is getting it. I've got a lot of folk and friends in the area. I'm 170 miles west in the Hill Country and on the more wrung out side of the storm. We're getting some wind and rain and the stores are having a hard time keeping some items on the shelves. My place is hill top high and dry. And the road into town is new and won't flood. But hills mean low spots in places for water to gather and run where it's normally dry.

I know there's nothing funny about a flood but we Texans like to laugh instead of cry so here for your viewing pleasure is one pix that's going around...........

My mom was from Port Lavaca, so I have a lot of family there. They were issued a mandatory evacuation. I have not heard when they'll be allowed back. Seems Rockport and Corpus got the most of it. No word from there yet either. I'm thinking of going for a pizza later.

I've got friends in Cypress that will get "just rain" 20-30 inches. It's not just the wind that will do the damage. They just got done with the major re-do from 1 1/2 years ago.

Cat 4 hurricane right over my town. Rockport has suffered severe damage, and Port A has, too. I'm in SA, no idea how my casa fared. Hope I've got somewhere to go back to, and that nobody got killed.

We are North of Houston and West of Spring. Doing well here. No property damage so far. Next door neighbour had a large limb break off one of his trees but it fell without damaging anything else.

Storm made landfall at Rockport near Corpus Christi (about 200 miles South of here) with sustained winds of 135 MPH and gusts about 50 MPH above that and is now inland, but still drawing moisture and energy off the Gulf and those outer (feeder) bands are what we are getting rain and tornadoes from up here. The storm has now turned North and the center is close to San Antonio, about 200 miles to our West......

    https://www.wunderground.com/weather-radar/united-states-regional/tx/san-antonio/animated?MR=1

Meteorologist on Channel 2 says the storm is supposed to double back on its present track towards Victoria in a day or so and after it is about halfway back to the coast, it will turn due North. Very strange. Guess we'll have to wait and see on that one.

So far, we have had about 10" of rain at our place. We are expecting the rain here to continue through Tuesday with the outer bands tracking through here dropping about 10" of rain per day over the next couple of days. We will likely exceed the 2nd 10" amount this evening, as there is an outer band of very heavy rain with tornadoes tracking through here and rain was reported as falling at 3.3" in 30 minutes time (I don't know why they don't just say 6.6" per hour).

Other areas around Houston have had up to 16" of rain so far. Much more rain in and around the area closer to the center of the storm, of course.

Our best wishes for all affected by this storm.

    Best regards,

    Harry
