Stogy! What's shakin? I'm in your province right at the moment. At Pearson on our way to Halifax to go visit some friends for a week. Pretty weird to see rain! Nice to not be breathing smoke for once! Yes it's been a weird summer sort of written off with the heat and smoke. Looking forward to some Atlantic hospitality and eats!!

Enjoy your trip...I'm waiting for a weather window to drive the ole Hotrod to my new location Ottawa way...a mere 240 mile journey...;)...funtimes. I have done shocks all around, installed baffles, had alignment done, a damper added, a new signal switch and oil change. Coordinating a day has not been as easy as I thought but it will happen.

Question for the transverse spring guys. Is a spring spreader necessary when putting the front and rear springs on and off the car or if i have the frame on ack stands with no weight on the suspension is it necessary? As i am progressing towards paint time for the car and will need to dissemble the frame for final finish and paint want to make sure i have that part down pat as i haven't dealt with the old transverse springs before. thanks in advance boys.

spreader or c clamps. the springs are under load even when they are not on the shackles.

I find the front pretty easy to manage without any xtra tools ... but the back is another matter. Agreed on c clamps. The biggest mofo c clamps you own. I use a chunk of 4x4 about 15 inches long under the arch of the spring. and then start compressing the spring with the clamps. Note ... I am not dissembling the spring pak with this method. Only compressing the spring enough to get it on/off rear end.

Thanks WD ya I don't see the front being any issue. I'll have to buy some bigger c's are you using four total I am guessing. 2 each side

I got away with 2 Bessey 18" clamps and yes ... my butt was clenched the whole time! There's a lot of energy in those springs!

Summer's over! Now I can work on the car! Ha ha Had a chat with a paint guy last week that owns a small shop in town and was recommended to me. Seems like a good guy and had a couple good projects on the go in his shop. He's going to come up and look over the car and chat about the job. Just about done all the stuff I need to hand the car off for paint so pretty excited to be close to that big step. Saved a bunch of beans and got the blessing from the boss so can't wait. Got some small odd tasks looked after today. Swapped the front shocks I had on the car for these covered units from so cal. Like the looks of these better. Mocked the fuel block on the firewall, mounted the fuel pump on the frame, and built the braided fuel line. I built some shock mounts for the rear as the existing mounts did not allow for enough shock travel for the size of shock that fits the mounts. Scratched my head on this solution for a while but think this will work. I bought some spray on paint stripper and removed the rest of the old sound deadener that was left on the inside of the doors. For the record I was very impressed how well it worked considering I was remover shit that's been on there since 1930! Pulled one of the axles to confirm the spline count as I need to order up a posi unit. Not sure of the ratio of the gears either so may have to buy some new gears as well. Productive Sunday, keep pushing forward!

Hey Fitness...Good to see back at err. I recall that I made a spreader using a 2"x4" and some threaded rod washers and nuts. Holes drilled in both ends a few inches deep for rod to sit in and be stable with washer and nut to adjust. I made the 2x4 long so the rod was shorter for safety. You can rework the end of the rod to a point or weld a plate on to sit in eye of spring. I think since your spring is behind the rear end housing there is clearance.

Ideas here abound below...in addition to the other advice given.

I replaced shocks all around with chrome versions of the So Cals and yeah quite a big difference. I did a 250 some odd mile jaunt to my new place without any hiccups. A journey I will never forget.

yup dark maroon with a good amount of flattener in the clearcoat. Looking for a finish very similar to how the rolling bones guys finish their cars. I wanna drive the crap outta the car and don't want to be spending time polishing so having a paint job that is decent but not to the point that i have to be paranoid about it when it gets driven. Have seen some good examples of cars where the frame has been kept black and actually like that result for the tone of color that i want so have decided to stick with the black frame. I have starred at a bazillion pics of these coupes so have definitely got a feel for what i like and what jumps out at me. nice thing is i can always change it so no big deal.

You have made great progress with this project and will be reaping the rewards soon...and I certainly can understand the desire to get to the finish line.
I did a number of strategic butt/foot maneuvers while on the journey to pacify comfort issues. This included a number of pit stops and pic sessions. She ain't no Cadillac but I knew it and accepted it all with open arms and the Ole Jalopy delivered 100%. It enjoyed a short stint on a 60mph highway to boot and it was happy to open the lungs a little. The bias plys also performed very well. Fuel consumption was even reasonable...

Here's an example of the frame black with the maroon body. I really like the contrast and I think with the less shiny paint finish will look sharp.

Great choice. Went to my local paint jobber, they had color plates from 28-36 Ford colors in these old pamphlets. I'm going with Duchess blue and a black chassis. Thought I'd post the colors as I took pics. Hope this doesn't confuse you, but these really are old time colors.

I agree. It's amazing just how many types of maroon there are. Trust me I have gone cross eyed looking at them trying to decide what I like. I know I definitely like the darker ones. Like this car.

Very cool. Boy that Ford maroon #1011 sure is dark eh? I made it clear to the painter I don't want no sparkle in my paint job.

I am looking at the same color scheme for mine. I saw this color at the Syracuse Nats. 1941 Ford Mayfair Maroon. I love it.

Been doing lots of looking regarding posi's for the rearend on the coupe as i will be adding one and likely changing the gears as i don't know yet what are in there as it was done when i bought the car. have been in contact with Mike from Quick Performance back and forth on some questions regarding the rear and i have to say how good he has been to work with. Where most guys can't get off their ass to answer the phone or reply to an email these days Mike has been back and forth with me by email several times with some really good general info on the 9 inch in the car after sending him some pics working through exactly what i should be getting. I am sure i'm like most guys where we just want some good info and a little insight when working on stuff that is maybe newer to us without getting the feeling that the guy would rather go get a coffee. His prices are the best i have seen online as well so that's a bonus but i would still deal with him regardless as he obviously cares about his customers and wants to help. No affiliation to him at all for the record, just wanted to share the good service. In today's age, it ain't common!

Same old story, not enough hours in the day blah blah. Finally got the tranny mid mounts from speedway so I got them massaged to fit the tranny. Had to shorten the sides to fit the pinched profile of the frame. Will fab up the mounts for the frame now. Just something plain and simple. [IMG][IMG][IMG]

Just a coincidence, but Quick Performance is only about a half hour from my house. You will have a collection of Iowa parts on your car. And HAMBer Dirtbag13 works there as well.
