  1. When I can remember them. ;)

  2. The people in the photo are, from left...........my dad, me, trophy girl who I have no idea what her name was, Hugh "Putzel" Osterman, Jim Cash, and Joe Lassalette. I was just a month out of a body cast from my aerobatics at El Mirage, and not cleared to drive, so Putzel drove in '63. He was a buddy of Don Nicholson's, and knew his way around a 4 speed pretty good. I have known Jim Cash since we were 7 years old. Never had a better friend. Joe and I go to car things together still, and in '65 he built a C/Gas '40 Willys that he ran with Big Stan Johnson. They won the Winternationals, and the March Meet in '65, and set the C/Gas national ET record. You meet the best friends in racing, and I thank my dad for exposing me to it.

    Dean,
Nice touch identifying all the people in the photo. It is interesting that there were no trophy girls used at the 62 Winternats. Here is a picture of Putzel holding the trophy after winning B/SP in my Corvette at the 62 Winters. Also including a photo of the trophy on the ground in front of the same Corvette about 30 years later. You can see it was beat up, but not a lost cause. Sorry about you losing the Winternationals trophies!

  7. Bert, so cool that you still have the trophy and the car. Sadly, I have neither. If you knew Putzel, you must have had your car on Don's dyno at Service Chevrolet in Pasadena. He worked there with Don and Earl Wade.

  11. Garlits himself would say that if you aren't cutting the lights close you aren't racing hard enough.

    Please feel free to contribute.

The OP JJ did himself post similar pics not nessesarily at the finish line (unfortunately now just x's or gone due to ole photo storage issues). Movie Stars/Actresses/Models often frequented automotive events. Jane Mansfield with the small dog in hand was on her way to a car event. I do my best to keep things period auto/race/hotrod and winners circle related and the membership for the most part seem to be enjoying the content and I am doing same.

I especially thought Aloha was an amazing gal who drove around the world in period Ford product. I'm sure she reached a finish line and hope she got a trophy...she deserved one.

    On with the show...

Jane Mansfield has something to do with cars or more so big trucks. That bar that is mounted on the rear of trailers and trucks is named after her. She and her husband were killed when they ran under a truck. . Laws were passed because of the wreck and the protection bar is called a Mansfield Bar.

Somewhere along the Gulf coast, AL, FL, or LA, some guy has on display the car that she was killed in and charges a small fee to view the wreck. I liked her because of the posters that she put out for the servicemen, well that and other things.

No. They are modern grid girls (i.e. prerace, not trophy). This thread is way off the rails. On this page alone we have glamour shots from the '60s, '70s & 80s plus the grid girls. I'd hate to see a cool thread killed because of all of the OT stuff.
