  2. I always dug D'Agostino's Golden Sunrise. I really enjoyed all the cars he did during that time period with the fade paint jobs.

Hard time figuring out where these should go

If anybody objects let me know.

In the late ’60s, the wild Barris-created Daroo I generated loads of attention for Dodge on the custom car show circuit.

George Barris, Hollywood’s King of the Kustomizers, was a leading player on on the themed show-rod scene. His Love Machine, built on a 1966 Dodge Tradesman chassis, cashed in on the custom van craze with a revolving bed and red velvet everywhere, and the plastic model kit version horrified mothers across America. In 1977, Barris repackaged his creation in red, blue, and silver as the Super Van, and it still exists in that form today.

Originally constructed by Don Bell and Chuck Trantham with a small-block Ford V-8 for power, the Outhouse Rod appeared in the August 1966 issue of Car Craft magazine. Show car impresarios Bob Reiser and Jay Ohrberg later obtained the rod, dropped in a twin-blower Chrysler hemi, and shipped it out to the car show circuit for several years.

The Forgotten Man was back in the news, this time labeled the “hard hat conservative,” and this theme rod was a tribute of sorts to the Archie Bunker archetype. Designed by Harry Bradley as an MPC model kit, the Hauler was then commissioned as a full-sized show rod by Autorama promoter Bob Larivee, with George Barris subcontracting the construction to Race Car Specialties.

Like many theme rods, the Red Baron was a plastic model kit before it became a real 1:1 auto. The tasteful design by Tom Daniel included a Pontiac OHC 6, Maltese Cross wheel covers, simulated machine guns, and a fiberglass top styled to resemble a German army helmet. Spotting a winner, car show promoter Bob Larivee then had a life-size version constructed by Detroit builder Chuck Miller for display on the Autorama circuit.

Bob Reiser creation, the Bathtub rod, which featured a Chrysler Hemi with twin blowers and gold-plated bath hardware. The popular plastic model kit of the Bathtub rod was reproduced years later by a Japanese company.

  6. I dig the Daroo and the Supervan (being a 70's kid whose dad got all the custom van mags, I just have to love the Supervan LOL). Not too sure on the rest...but I bet they would be a hoot to drive to work, just for fun. LOL

Thanks guys for the good words... I was hoping that you wouldn't mind a ride threw the past...the 80's for me was starting point of most of my car Cruzin ,hot rodding, racing now memories.... I think my real start for the love of old kustoms came from being created in the back seat of one , at leased I try to think it was ,my parents wouldn't ever admit to it...,my dad's ride was a 1950 Chevy Bel-Air my mom talked about them out Cruzin and parking when they met and how she was the girl flaging the drag races my dad would get into out on the old dike road...the car had a hopped up Chevy 6 with Corvette side draft triple carbs and the 3 on the tree flipped to the other side for better 1-2 shifts ( his words )
Any ways thanks again and thanks to the younger guys , and the older guys too, that are bringing back and keeping the old and new Kustom Kemp's ,Led Sleds , Bitchin Kool Rides , on the road.... I am currently working on a 50 Bel-Air my self to look like my dad's old car I have collected the parts needed ,the Corvette intake ,the 54 grill w/extra teeth , working on the frenched headlight now ...and thanks to a neighbor ,Ted R.I.P. , I have the old spinner hub caps that were originally on my dad's car ...the old neighbor Ted got them from my dad when the old Chev was crashed and hung them in is barn he brought them to me one day when I was working on my 50 told me some story's of my dad and his car then give me the caps saying the needed be on my car.....now when working my car I let my mind go back to the days of my dad and now my mother bombing down the country's old roads in his old kustom Chevy, named Handy Man , with the old 50's tear jerker tunes on the radio......,... Sorry for rambling guy's ...in the future when I go flipping threw the pages , I have every Magazine I have ever owned then some, I will post some more pics of the trip if you don't mind, with out the story's...thanks

I think it's great to know about your parents lives when they were young. Way back I found a bunch of photos of my parents from when they were dating in the '30s, young and probably more importantly, without kids! For me, it's a real treasure to have them.

  17. I assumed by the front plate that it was built as a "tribute" to Scoopy.
It's close other than the front/rear bumper areas and the sculptured top.

  21. I got to see the Scoopy '58 at a little cruise night here in Denver about a month ago. I just couldn't get enough of it. I kept walking around the car over and over taking it all in. Blew me away that such a famous car was at a cruise here!
A few of the street rod guys I know would walk by and I would tell them with excitement that this was a Joe Bailon custom and mention some of the custom mods done to it. Every single person I talked to just gave me a blank stare, and a few even said "Who the hell is Joe Bailon?"
After that I gave up trying to share my excitement with any of those clueless street rod dudes..........E

Clone or tribute to the first version. Built by Joe Bailon. Should have been clearer

Lol! What a funny story. I would have loved to have been there. I wish it would show up in Salina. The conversation that you had is like trying to explain "kool" to someone.
