Avoid like the plague. Shawn Kolbe, Beaverton Oregon had several sets of valve covers for sale on here back in July. I agreed to purchase 1 pair with "No visible damage" for $100 plus $20 shipping. He said "Postal Money Order Only" When I got the covers I could see an old break at 1 bolt hole where someone had severely over tightened a bolt. After much him-hawing on his part he said return the covers for a refund. He kept the valve covers AND my money. Now I am out $148.15 total with shipping BOTH ways. Every week a new sad story. On vacation, Mom died, lost in the mail, yadayadayada. Now after 6 weeks of awaiting the refund he has gone silent. He is a LAIR & A THIEF!!! My fault for going along with postal money order, but I know that some, especially older people do not do Pay Pal. I checked him out a little bit. Goes by Shawn Kolbe, Barry Kolby, Colby and I found where he pulled a similar stunt on a different forum in the past. As soon as he got the valve covers back from me he cancelled all of his listings on the HAMB and requested that his "account on this crappy sight" be closed.

Since the fraud was via USPS MO, file a fraud complaint with USPS. If he insists on payments USPS MO's, just maybe this isn't the first time USPS fraud division has heard of him...
Maybe a local Portland area HAMBer will recognize his Dodge pickup at a local cruise and inquire about your refund for you.

I am still stewing from my $296 scamming... the bad guys going through the hamb [no fault of the hambies] via wallmart cash exchange... beaver dam, wi.
what a world it would be if the scammers spent the time they use inventing scams thinking of ways to make something work better...

Muleskinner, please follow up with the outcome after the postal guys get done with whatever they do. We would all like to know if the USPS actually will go after these scammers.

Fuck, there's getting to be a lot of this shit, I wonder if these scammers have ever been beaten by a baseball bat. Only time I ever got took, I told the guy I would wait outside his place hidden in his hedge. I made him so shit scared to get out of his car I got my cash back, AND, I never even went there.
It ain't the money here, it's money that was hard earned and given up in good faith to someone with no morals, who, in my opinion, deserve to be afraid to park in their own yard. Notice the hedges?

  11. Sadly this kind of crap is beyond out of hand. It is to the point where I do not know even ONE person who has not been the victim of a scam in one way or another, including myself. These people need to be held accountable !!:(

Most of the time I will only accept Postal money orders, they are safe for the consumer and good as cash for the seller.

  13. How true. Maybe this type of crap will revive the huge swap meets of old. Nothing but car parts, face to face transactions and a little BS on the side. Probably not but I can dream can't I?

Yes. Use the Post Master General. The USPS has their own L.E. and fraud investigations.

This matter is right up their alley for the USPS Money Order.

Well, your buddy "Colby" (under the same phone #) is selling valve covers on Portland's Craigslist. Sure hope these aren't one of the sets of valve covers he already "sold" and collected $$$ from someone on the HAMB when he had all those HAMB ads up!!!

Of course I would never do this but I have heard of people in a similar situation who used the offender's phone number in the male seeking male ads. Just saying....

Try Shawn Kolbe Beaverton Or. on Facebook. Interesting Dodge pickup with red tailgate that lists valve covers.

I think they should take this thread and a few others like it and make the sticky with them, experience is a wonderful teacher.

Did a ZabaSearch.Com search, and he WAS in Portland. BUT, on that site it says he's "related" to Barry". Well Barry is 56, as is Shawn (???); Barry Shawn Kolbe, maybe his true/actual name (???). The muddy water is getting muddier. Any and all info will help nail this bum. May have a record on one of his several names, and records sometimes mean parole officers, and such. There are many ways to jamb someone up, and really make their life h*ll. We've all been scammed; there are a lot of gypsys, tramps, and thieves out there. I am Butch/56sedaqndelivery.

I think you have to wait 90 days from the date of issue, and they will check where/when it was cashed. If it hasn't been cashed, the P.O. will void it and give you your money back. I sent one to a hamber who said he never got it, they checked and i got my money back.

Since you used a USPS money order, you can and should get the Feds involved. You pay taxes, get something out of them. The Post Office takes this very seriously. Sic them on him for the rest of us.
