I purchased a stainless steel no holes bumper and it did not come with the mounting studs mounted.
What would be the best way to mount the studs? I know they will have to be welded so do I weld the brackets on or the studs first. The bracket is steel. As for discoloring whit is the best way to polish the bumper? Thanks

I don't think you would be able to polish the heat bluing away from welding with any polish out there. Just my opinion, hope it works out for you tho. Ralphie

    how many is enough?

even drilling stainless can be a challenge, if done too quickly will cause bluing to finish also

I wonder if you were to make contoured brackets to match the inside of the bumper, then used panel adhesive to mate it together?

    PS

No Hoes were harmed during the making of this reply.

I would check with the company you bought it from. A bumper with no way to attach it?

There no problem heating stainless steel or welding it for that matter.
Stainless can be polished back to its luster no matter how many hoes you decide to run down.

Was just watching youtube video about Ralphie May, and his bit comparing taking a joke to taking something else somewhere else. You should look it up.
It'll make you laugh... or not.

The last bumper I bought didn't have hoes, either. I thought you had to pay extra for them...

Weld it like sheet metal, lots of small welds and keep moving from one side to the other. I don't know about trucks from that era, but is it possible to make new brackets that bolts on, where you can't see the bolt heads? Like on the underside, or behind the grill.

The stainless bumpers I have used had bolts welded on them to mount with. They were Rock Valley bumpers I believe. Stainless will buff out if blued.

Stainless Steel polishes up fine after heating , that's why it is called " Stainless "

But you can help dissipate the heat by wetting an old bath towel, fold it over and lay it on your work bench and lay the bumper's face in the towel and weld quickly and move a round a lot. If its chrome, I don't think anything will help, if its stainless it'll work (hope you tig weld)

Hope I was helpful, you know what they say; Bros before hoes.

You could be different, and paint the bumper black, like Ford did on most of them.

  20. Stainless will buff out just fine after welding; I've built many parts out of welded stainless....

This was built out of stainless rod and sheet, welded, had the welds dressed, then polished. You don't need to TIG weld it either; there's stainless stick rod available, that's what I used.

If it's not broke, fix it till it is!

  30. If it chrome you cant weld it. I think the glue they use to attach door hinges on newer vehicles would work. weld the studs to a large piece of metal and glue that to the back of your bumper.
