As a working musician it's pretty much a requirement to be on facebook, and it definitely has advantages for networking. It's pretty hard to beat facebook for free advertising, getting information about yourself, your band, your activities out to the public. The ability to create "Events" and invite people is really helpful. I resisted it for years, but finally succumbed to it, and wish I had done it years earlier.

When I first heard about "FACEbook", I thought it was a 'specialty directory' for Heidi Fleiss!

I left Face Book 10 or so years ago, when my old friends and family members would say "Goodnight Facebook"...

Gawd, I hope that doesn't start a "Goodnight HAMB" thing.....

Do the facebook people use a cell phone to access it? Is that what they are looking it while standing in moving traffic?

Hmmm, don't do FB but I will tweet now n then for fun and aggravation. However I've heard there's now a marketplace gig that can be downright profitable. Anyone hip to it?

I haven't used FB Marketplace much, but I would say it is quite similar to Craigslist.

I joined the FB HAMB to check it out. Nothing really going on there, no one ever posts. I think they just used the word "hamb" in their name when they started the group because they were trying to get like minded people to join. (Kind of a cheap trick).

I get along better with my family and friends when I don't read their Face Book posts. If I had to read about what you guys ate for breakfast or why I'm not a real "American" because of how I vote, I would be out of here too. Just sayin....

My friends and family can call, text or better to stop by if they want to share shit.
    TMI. Personal Facebook is stupid.
Now free advertising on my business is another subject, although we rarely update it.

I've got FB contact with a lot of people I know from the HAMB. I've got a better picture of the lives of guys like FlynBrian, povertyflats, Metalshapes, RichVenza, UKAde, and others that way. banjeaux bob has become quite a good friend in the process.

But I'm doing most of my Facebook in the groups these days: car groups, anarchist groups, Christian groups, anti-racist groups, architectural history groups. Not much of cats in compromising positions there. And the hard content is linked by users, so taken overall it ranges from the extreme right to the extreme left, and in perpendicular directions too. It's not so much a source as a conduit.

The HAMB facebook page was started by a guy in Georgia who is also on this board. He wanted it because he has and likes traditional hot rods and customs. For some reason, he made me an ADMIN on that page. It ran along fine for a couple of months until another HAMB page started dumping on Ryan and posting nasty shit about the main board. Ryan had it shut down and rightfully so.......after all, it is his Brand and he does control it. When all the drama happened, we made Ryan the only Admin which was the right thing to do. Ryan said as long as we were true to the main board, we could use his brand but he would keep an eye on us. There are several HAMB members who are now Admin and Moderators including Ryan. While true that there is not a lot of activity compared to the main board, the selection of pictures is really kind of cool.
Facebook has it's place just like the main HAMB board has it's place. Will it replace the main HAMB board ? Not a chance in hell of that happening. The FB HAMB page has over 5,000 members which probably less than a third of them have ever been to the main HAMB board.
The FB HAMB page is a closed group. You have to ask to be a member and we do go through the person asking FB page just to get an idea of their interests. If there is a link to any rat rod page, they don't get in and are blocked

It was damn nice of Ryan to allow us the use of the name and reputation of the board. If he asked me to shut it down, I would be more than happy to do so.

Great explanation. Thank you. It makes total sense.

Ryan is part of it, condones it so no one here should have a problem with it. If people don't like FB, they don't have to use it.

I'll definitely go to the FB page and check it out again. I can see how it could augment the main board, especially if it had slightly different parameters.

Thank you Clunker. The page was never trying to be something it wasn't and will never be. Trying to control the content there is outrageous..............I can't imagine what the MODS and Ryan have to put up with to control this board with it's open boarders.

There is a FB page called " Banned From The HAMB ".........just complaints about this main board and of course, lots of rat rod pictures

facebook sucks.... for the same reasons that Disco sucks. Yeah, it can be catchy and fun, but in the long run it's all made-up, poser, wanna-be, look-at-me shallowness and way TMI.

A few years back, I predicted Facebook would be the downfall of civilization... and I think that's proving to be the case.

I don't have a Facebook account. Well, I guess I do... but I've never logged on to it.
