The transmission has it's paint so now I'm prepping the engine for it's painting.

We're coming to an end with the painting, a few more parts left over will visit the powder coating shop.

    It's a C4 from a 73 Maverick. I'm not sure if they made a shorter C4.
The bell housing is from Flat O to fit the Y Block.
The driveshaft is short but not extremely short.

I'm really liking the Uno acrylic urethane.
    It's nice paint.

We have a Washington blue Y Block.

I'm going to give it a week or so and then I think I'll dismantle the paint booth and make some more room for other work.

I was looking everything over and deciding if I was happy with it all before I dismantle the paint booth.
I had a few things with the pickup bed that I felt I should probably fix so I sanded them out and scuffed the rest.
Cleaned it all and in the booth for a couple of coats.
I'm happy with the results so I'll probably take the paint booth apart tomorrow.

I've got a bunch of assorted small parts to take to the powder coating shop.

    :D It's called work Fred :D
Summer holidays are done and I'm back to teaching again for the year so things have slowed down considerably.

    Updates will be further apart.
In the meantime here's a picture of my windshield posts in copper at Ogden chrome.

Built some carpet padded blocks for my jack stands so that I can set the frame up for initial assembly.

After that I got the tailgate out and the chromed straps and mounted the tailgate after polishing some stainless bolts.
The lower hinge brackets that bolt to the bed are powder coated black.

If being a traded instructor wasn't such a good job it would be pretty hard to go back to work after a summer off, i get so much done over the summer that it is frustrating when things slow down after going back to work. As per usual your work continues to be top notch, you should bring it up to the Dawson creek show next summer!!

I'm with you there, I've had my summers off now for the last 20 years and I'll continue to do so until I retire but I'm not in a hurry to get there :D
I got so much done this summer because I was working on it pretty much every day.

Back to school and also teaching a night course right now means that progress has slowed down considerably.
The extra $ from the night course will ensure that I can get this thing done  :D

I don't have an intake until the end of oct. So I still have a bit of a flexible schedule, I'm only on my fourth year but like you have no plans to ever quit!

The transmission dipstick was giving me fits so I decided to order up a Lokar firewall mounted dipstick, a positive locking and sealing midnight black version.

I'm glad that I did, what a well thought out quality piece.
It will not leak like the o ringed push in tubes do.

At the same time I installed the new stock depth transmission pan that I had ordered to replace the deep pan that was going to cause ground clearance issues.

Fred wondered if he was OCD :D
Now maybe it's my turn :D

My pickup bed tailgate was held on with bolts through the single layer that's forms the tailgate and the nuts protruding on the inside were really getting to me.

So I did a little searching and came up with the solution.

    Stainless steel T nuts - 5/16" x 18 x 3/8" .

They do the job very nicely as their profile is flat and less than 1/8" thick.

I actually made a homemade wrench with a couple of studs similar to a grinder disc wrench
    To hold them for tightening.

Then I remembered that since I'm not using the speedometer drive hole in the transmission that I should probably put the plug in

That's ATD. Attention To Detail.;) Your solution for that nut is very clever. And that plug looks nice!

Wow. I just read through this thread from the beginning - I'm both impressed with your work and persistence...and just a little exhausted :)

Really cool and very inspirational, thanks so much for sharing this!

Thanks, and they are expensive little buggers at $6 each (Lowes, I'm sure there are cheaper places but on a Sunday I'm not complaining :D) and I needed 6 of them as each hinge strap has 3 bolts.

I'm going way outside the norm here to be sure but my next step is to have box liner sprayed inside the little bed.
I purposely left the paint less than perfectly smooth on the box insides for that reason.
Because the bed is all steel and I fabbed it like a more modern bed I like the idea and toughness of the textured bed liner.

    Sorry Fred nothing to report.
What little free time I’ve had has been spent trying to get my little shop cleaned up and organized.

And now my son has planned to get my help with a twin turbo kit installation on his new pickup.
So that will eat up some time.

I promise to post an update as soon as possible
    :D

On top of that it’s a sad time for Canadian music fans now that Gord Downie has passed away.
The Tragically Hip were a big part of my life and Gord will be greatly missed. :(

This is one of my favourite Hip tunes.

You bet Fred, I know you're a music lover and maybe you know of the Hip, but if you don't give them a listen.
    Very iconic and Canadian band.
