I love the ambulance theme. You could put St Johns on the doors!

I agree.....seems "ratty" to me, but there is fab spray that I have used to "paint" or dye vinyl.
Not sure if it's still available though.

    Google is our friend:
    https://fabricspraypaint.com/

Sure there are other brands also

Paint would stick better then vinyl on vinyl. Plus I would bet that the roof insert vinyl has a grain or texture to it.
Look at Krylon spray paint as they have ones that are formulated for plastic and vinyl I believe.
If you use automotive paint use an adhesion additive like they use on all the plastic bumper covers on today's cars.

  6. The why is why I do everything I want to do. I was talking to a local guy the other day and he started talking about a Model A sedan that used to run around my town in the late 60's early 70's. I had forgot all about that car but it had a huge maltese cross on the roof. My Buddy called it a Surfer's Cross.

SEM vinyl paint. Works great on interior stuff, not sure how it would weather. My local paint shop carries a large selection of colors.

It was just as tacky back in the day as it is now. Leave the rat rod crap to rat rods. That is a nice clean little hot rod that doesn't need anything more than a bit more cleanup in a few places why screw it up?

  9. How the Maltese Cross is used nowadays
Today, the Maltese Cross is undoubtedly the single most recognisable symbol of the Maltese Islands. It’s no coincidence that this emblem forms part of the logo of a number of local institutions, including the Malta Tourism Authority, Malta Enterprise, and the Islands’ flag-carrier, Air Malta, not to mention the national football and rugby teams’ official strip.

Many Maltese houses still incorporate the Cross in their stonework. A visit to any souvenir or gift shop will also reveal an array of local crafts adorned with the Maltese Cross. Apart from the obvious t-shirts and key-chains, you will find the Cross on a generous variety of quality lace and filigree products, all kinds of jewellery, pottery and glassware, brass door knockers, as well as items made from limestone.

It seems that the Maltese Cross, a symbol which chivalric warriors first wore with pride hundreds of years ago in faraway lands, has found a permanent home on this little archipelago in the middle of the Mediterranean!

Is that anything like the iron Cross that the Nazis had in ww2??? Just wondering....

  11. Well you guys talked me in to it. I am going to remove the insert and build a new one out of wood (that's what I do) and this carpenter will stain it lightly and inlay a large deep mahogany wood Surfer's Cross. Well just thinking of doing that. Here are some pics that piss the local old fart hot rodder's off. And I am as old as they are but I am not hung up by the oldie's songs and duck ass hair cuts. ramones.jpeg ramones2.jpeg

Plasti Dip makes a stripable rubber spray in many colors. I know Menards and Walmart sells it.

That Maltese Cross will insure you'll own that car for a long long time. Same for all those Streetrods still running nineties graphics and eighties pastel paint jobs. I'd be too embarassed driving one of those Tittie Pink Streetrods that are still out there. Recently saw a picture of a red 58 Chevy that was for sale with "Burning Love" painted on the rear quarters. Bet thats going to really help sell that car. Leave your cars generic and let the new owners F**k it up.

While it's not MY thing, I say do it on the vinyl. There is vinyl paint available for changing the color of your entire interior and it wrks well.
For the naysayers, the Surfer's Cross is as traditional as anything else. Roth put them on all kinds of stuff. My pop had them on stuff in the sixties and we built a skateboard when I was a kid that was canary yellow with a big Surfer's Cross.
They're kitschy as all get out, but definitely traditional.

Sent from my LGLS992 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Edit: To be fair, all the kids made fun of my skateboard (it wasn't name brand and didn't have aliens and shit on it) but all their dads thought it was the hippest thing ever. Maybe it's a SoCal thing.

I don't get the rat rod comparison. Schneider racing cams used a Maltese cross back in the day for their logo . Seems hot rod to me.

I always thought they were the same. I remember putting a Maltese ( I thought "surfers") cross decal on my bike as a kid and my normally easy going and mild mannered uncle tore me a new one for it. He was a WWII vet that fought in Germany, told me I was disrespecting him and his service brothers by displaying the cross.

Wasn't it a medal of honor to the Germans like the purple heart or something?

That's the original history. The Nazi symbol is a modification of the original.
