A friend of mine had them paint a car in the early 70's, he thought he got a great deal because of the price.
Apparently he hadn't looked lower than his knees because there were so many runs along the rocker panels that it looked like icing on a cake.

The car is the Redmer Spl. that Charlie Van Acker drove in 1949. I think that is Van Acker with the camera but I'm not sure.

The Thompson cars actually used Firestone tires in 1963. It was in 1964 that they ran Armstrong Rubber built tires that were branded as Sears Allstate. All three cars in the photo used Firestone tires although they were different sizes. This may have been a photo taken for Firestone publicity purposes.

    Great photo! Thanks for posting!

My dad bought an early '80's blue Citation...only his second new car in his life. Apparently they used some new paint process...sprayed with powdered paint and heated maybe? Anyway, the paint came off in sheets staring with the roof and hood within the first 6 months. They repainted it under warranty. This happened to many of these models.

    Hello,
There were several cars painted at the local Earl Schieb during our 59-62 era. But, the deciding factor was that price. For us,
it was $19.95 then inflation took it up to $29.95. Our local Long Beach Earl Schieb shop wasn't too bad in their finished products. The price was so far below the real custom paint shops that it had to be tried. If you did not care to enter your car in a car shows and wanted a simple paint job, this was the place. (either that or your driveway.) Also, there were colors that just came out better than most.

My friend from HS had his 56 Chevy, 2 door post painted a silver color and it came out great. After that paint job, we went to TJ to get white tuck and roll upholstery, including the headliner. The white tuck and roll made that car stand out and everyone was very pleased with the look. He added some chrome reversed rims on blackwalls and it did look like a custom street racer.

As far as the motor, we taped off everything after cleaning and painted it red to make it look clean and neat. The Earl Schieb silver paint looked great, did not need to shine like my black 58 Impala paint. A good wax job and the shine was just enough to make it look good. Everyone had great comments about it, including his mom/dad and girlfriend. So, regardless of how many stories there were about the $19.95-$29.95 any color, any car advertising, some of them came out great.

I remember when the Earl Scheib paint jobs were first touted at $19.95. Gosh I'm old!
