Hey Brett, I got to meet your father at the show. I didn't have much time cause we were just rolling out, but he came over and intro'd. Boy he gets around in that roadster!

HAHAHA...check out the sign hanging off the building just above us. With that crew hanging around, there were no sheep around to be seen. Ty-Rods show...where "men is men, and sheeps is scared"!

Hey paul, are you finally back with the living today? You do know that you're getting a little too old to try to keep up partying with the kids!!
You were frigin green Sunday. haha

tyrods 161.JPG Yep, The show totally kicked *** and Im happy to see people making mark of that T bird too. It was one of my favorite cars of the show. I did find out it was from CA. I really wanted to see what was under the hood! Looking at what was on the side of the fender (added vintage lincoln emblem) Im ***uming it was Lincoln powered. The detail work on the car including the custom grille, nerfs, and REAL mag wheels were great. I want to say the rear lamps were from an early Mercury wagon or something (someone have an idea here?). ------ I missed the Hamb Meet -- (%^&), but had a great time meeting some old friends and seeing some great cars/........Oh yeah ...That was "Fitzy's" car that was restored for pebble beach (sans the independent suspension) -- I think I spent an hour just looking at that car and the t bird alone ---- also loved that g***er style 37 ford. Great time! Day went by way to fast.

  13. Just the clarify the two quotes below,

This is Paul Fitzgerald's roadster, and I think its my favoite roadster, too. It was just shown out at Pebble and there are some other pics of it if you do a search.

In the new paperback of 'Cool Cars Square Roll Bars' (a great read by the way) he goes into depth about how he found it and rebuilt it to its current state. He sold the roadster in 63 to a guy from Bronxville, NY , in 1997 he went back looking for it. The ch***is (with the wheels, Chevy rear, hood, and hood side panels) was in Northern NJ and the body in southern NJ (who says we don't have any taste?). While the ch***is is original, what I can get out of the book is that the body is not (might be wrong about this), the engine is not original, but a recreation to the original 265. The steering wheel was remade by Mudd Sharrigan, and it has a handmade plaque, made by Peter Seferian. This is what I can find out from the book.

I'm trying to get more copies of this book and will do a post, if I can.

    Best, MRAK

  20. If that 'Bird does in fact have a Lincoln motor in it,it might be Jim Boring's old car.Jim ran a 'Bird at the drags back in the late 50's and early 60's with a 525 cu. in. Lincoln motor.Used to see it at Sanford and Charleytown. The taillights are 55-56 Mercury wagon lamps.

It's not a Lincoln, it's got a '57 T-Bird motor with dual quads. Dave bought it in Cal from the original owner who had it shaved and painted at Valley Customs in '57. His name started with an "H" so he put the MK II emblems on it 'cause they kinda look like an H.?

Yeah, I was was a little under the weather, so to speak. I'm much better today and wishing I could walk the field again and see the great iron I missed.

Just got an update on my engine...the cam should be back from the grinder tomorrow or Wednesday. Maybe the engine will be ready in a week.
Woo Hoo, I can get going on the fourth engine change of the year. hahaha

That is the Paul FitzGerald Roadster. It was sold in 1963, found what was left of it in 2000 and was at Pebble Beach and the Ty-Rods with the restored version. Same No-Mads owner/builder as in the early 50's. IFS was specially modified for PB to look as it looked in 1959. At the Ty-Rods, it was up to 2007 design.

Here's the heads up on the once lost roadster. It was indeed lost, until 1997. My brother bought Paul's roadster from him in 1963 and ruined it. The last time I saw it with him was in 1970 with the engine apart, the front end parts dis***embled in in the front seat. It had an inch of shop dust on it. He sold it to a guy named Marty. That's all I knew, until I saw an old black and white picture of it in Street Rodder Magazine. I sent an e-mail on it to the editor who published it and that got me in touch with Paul FitzGerald. Paul and I met in Miami on one of his business trips. Paul decided in 1997 to recover the roadster with back page want ads in car magazines. Paul managed to find parts of it ****tered all over New York, New Jersey and Long Island. He was very lucky to recover those mag wheels...! Anyway... He rebuilt his car with both new and original parts and has displayed it at The Concours d'Elegance events. There are three things in the new version of this car that are different than when my brother had it: 1). Painted blue instead of black, 2). The original shop fabricated A-frame front end parts are now from a catalogue and 3). the cab floor pan is dropped an inch or two ( big improvement. ) Paul's roadster had a beautifully fabricated steering wheel that could not be found, but Paul found his old friend who made that alive and well and he made a new one in exact detail from memory and that really adds a nice touch to the finished product. I did visit Paul's garage in Newtown Conn. a few years ago with a dear old friend and I have pictures of my own from that day...
Now you know the rest of the story. (((BIG SMILE)))
