  6. In Las Vegas, they used to announce the time and day of the shots, and a couple of companies used to run buses out to get a closer view.
A close friend of mine, he was our squadron nuclear safety officer, watched a couple of them up close in the late 50s. He died of cancer, which he blamed on the radiation.

An amazing photo - and just think - those guys had to be drug kicking and screaming into a world that had roll cages! I'm sure the driver of 28 no longer needed convincing - once his eyes were open again. As for 82, I think he's still on the gas, so he's not worried - yet. The 92 has had some of it's stacks blown off along with the windscreen and the guy up near the fence now has un-parallel 4 bars in the front end - which doesn't matter much, I suppose, when you're backing up. 9. People would take the paved LA river flood channel to bypass the LA traffic. Traffic was always bad in LA. Lots of after hours drag racing went on down there too. These guys were coming up out of it.

  10. How about TV commercials?

Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner Restaurant: Buena Park, CA
    upload_2017-10-29_4-40-13.png

Also the brochures from Deuce Daddy Don...(thread would not post the reply)

    Hello,

Nice photo of Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner Restaurant from the old days. The original brochures and information were priceless. It brought back many memories from those early days, there. Judging by the cars in the photo, it must have been in 1965 or so. My dad used to love the chicken dinner here and the monthly drives from Long Beach to Buena Park were worth it. We got to eat a great dinner and then visit the Ghost Town to search for gold in the stream, near the volcano.

During this time period, my wife used to work in a small display in the Ghost Town area loaded with stuff (art work, sculptures, etc.) her uncle used to weld. She was the "hired" family help. It was handy as they lived just a three blocks from Knott’s Berry Farm. On one of our first dates later in 1966-67, we had to go to Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner Restaurant for what we knew was a great meal.

“The dinners soon became a major tourist draw, and the Knott's built several shops and other attractions to entertain visitors while waiting for a seat in the restaurant.”

Back in this time period, there was only the Ghost Town, the Chicken Dinner Restaurant and several shops, including Virginia’s gifts, all open to the public. (free, until 1968 when some of the attractions had a small fee) The thing was popular, if you could find a parking spot on the main drag (Grand Ave.) running down the street in front of these attractions.

Knott’s Berry Farm, like other So Cal attractions, has gone through many changes, some good, some bad. The current size (and attractions) is a bit overwhelming. But, back in the early 50’s through the late 60’s it was a fun place to take the family on a Sunday drive and dinner.

Probably Bob Hogle in the #1, Pat Flaherty in the Dunn Engineering #46. That car was around for quite sometime.

The driver of the #1 Bromme car is Paul Jones, not sure who is in the #2 car but possibly Dick Fries. Johnny Fedrick is in the Dunn car, a DNQ 1953.
