  1. I'm very happy to see your going with shiney instead of fake. Nice to open this today and see it in black, looks awesome as expected.

It was a huge expense, but it is the entire front end of a fenderless car. It'll hurt a bit but you wont be sorry.

IMG_3199.JPG IMG_3199.JPG Dashing. I have no idea, I may get an estimate, but thought it's probably more than what I would spend for new if I sell mine.

  6. A well-built car deserves a quality finish. Yours looks terrific.

  7. Can you powdercoat it in silver or near chrome and then just paint the insert? To my eye it would look good with a nice silver surround with a black insert.

  9. Back to the top, maybe some cool Hamber has a good one that he/she would cut you a great deal on.
Your car, but I'm hoping for shiney, no fake patina.

That lacquer crap from the past was cotton based and bad about swirling. Urethane will come out beautifully, especially if you finish with 4000 gr. paper. You remind me of a couple Westcoast boys who built roadsters that appeared at El Mirage last May. Apparently, you are taking the same vitamins that they take. Congrats on your super quick build, also.

Quick? LOL, I feel like it's moving at a snails pace! I guess I've watched to many "reality" TV shows, wherein a bunch of knuckle-dragging morons, led by a pompous wind-bag with too much pomade in his hair build a killer car in 40 minutes, while making bone headed mistakes, weld without a helmet, and prank each other in the shop. I better get busy, the auction is tomorrow and I'm over budget! ;-)

It was always going to be shiny, I was going to sand through the black in a couple spots to the red primer, but I can't do it. I put an ad in the classifieds for the grill I have, perhaps some cool HAMBER will buy it, and I can put that with some of the $$$ we got for my wife's totaled '09 Fusion and get a better one. ;-)

Well. I did it. Bought a grill shell. Used, but looks OK. Now, somebody buy mine, lets make a deal!

s-l1600-2.jpg s-l1600.jpg This had better be good. The bottom bars have been sloppily "repaired", but I'm gonna paint them red (or black) anyway, so I can straighten them for what I paid.

  15. That looks great. I guess the bent bars helped keep the price from stupid.
Should be an easy fix for you.

Yup. It's the only one I've seen on that site who's name we shall not mention that was even remotely affordable, that was better than the one I have.

That's what I found. A Drake repop is almost twice what I paid, this one isn't perfect but it will be with a couple hours effort.

I'd like to offset the new one a little, it's on that auction site, and here. I put $950 here.

23130544_10215307016971321_6504642557270940133_n.jpg So, in my usual fashion of stepping over a dollar to pick up a dime, I spent about two hours "fixing" the old SW temp gauge on the right (which someone had nipped the Bourdan tube off right next to the housing) by transplanting the guts from a cheap-o Auto-Meter gauge from the parts store. Of course I managed to get it a little cock-eyed in the housing and creased the face when I dropped it, and who knows if it'd be accurate, but it filled the hole. My wife looked and and said, "Why don't you just buy a new one? I don't want to look at that every time I get in the car." A 2 minute search revealed a brand new SW 2 5/8" mechanical gauge is $64. So, I ordered it. She's always right...

IMG_3233.JPG IMG_3235.JPG IMG_3239.JPG IMG_3240.JPG IMG_3241.JPG IMG_3242.JPG IMG_3243.JPG Good day today. First, I got called off work! Then I did some orthodontia on the grill bars, which look MUCH better now. Put the grill shell on, mounted the hood tops and slid the side panels on. It looks great, nice gaps at the grill and cowl, I'm happy.
Then I put the Halogen conversion bulbs in the headlight buckets. I still need park/turn sockets and do the wiring, but I mocked them up on the car .
    Happy, happy, happy!

B, you planning on running the filler panel behind the grille? I don't see one yet. Mine was a royal pain in the arse. I had to cut the mounting sides off, bolt it up to the grille then trim/fit the panel and spot weld it in place. Finished the welding off the car but what a pain. You probably don't need one for air flow as much as I do with a potentially hot running flathead. Just curious.

I think your arrow is pointing to the apron, which I think is what you're talking about as a filler panel. It's in there, and it bolted right on, no worries. I have a 'glass one too, this one is steel, but it doesn't have a crank hole. Odd...
