    That's a long bomb.:D Contact your DMV.

  4. I'm probably not much help. As all my Hot Rods had their original titles. But I would take all your Info to your D.M.V. And ask them what you need. They are the only one that counts. Each state is different. The title would be the first thing I would do before building a Rod. Just do what ever they tell you. before spending $$$ ;)

Contact your local DMV office or look at their website.

Big question is if you bought it without a title, what the heck are you going to do if the VIN or serial #'s pop up in the DMV computer as stolen. They can impound the car. Then what do you have?
    good luck, Jimmie

  10. Let me expand this a little for the original poster. Get the paperwork clean before you spend any money on the car and soon enough that you can still contact the seller to get any issues resolved.

In the old days it was done with a "historical document" but that is now frowned upon and basically illegal. Do you have an original frame with an original and visible vin number or is it a repro frame with no vin number. The posters are right, it depends on the state and their requirements. Good luck.

As has been said, it varies from state to state. But it can also vary from DMV to DMV, even employee to employee. You can find someone who think old cars are neat, and helps you waltz through the system, or you can find one that delights in making you jump through a never ending hoops until you give up. Every state has a system in place to deal with a no title vehicle, but how much time, money and energy to get it is the variable.

In Florida, you would fill out an application for a custom title. It requires bills of sale for the engine, chassis, and any parts over $500

Is there a VIN? The easiest and cheapest (in the long run) would be to find a friendly ;-) independent registration in your area / state. They typically have ex-DMV employees who can work wonders in getting F'd-up paperwork in order.
