Hot Rods T Bucket Interiors

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by tfeverfred, Aug 12, 2017.

  1. I don't remember if I've mentioned this on this thread, but I may have elsewhere. Have you looked at the sea of mid century modern dining room chairs on Amazon? They could easily be cut off and repurposed for a hot rod and it wouldn't be too hard to find one with the right look and dimensions.

I like this one quite a bit but it's 20" wide:

something you have to take into account about these chairs. they are not meant to be sat in on long drives. plus you would have to make a frame work to hold them. plus they need more foam. dining room chairs are usually hard.

  4. True, but these are more in an answer to the naked bomber seat option. Most of these already have threaded inserts for the legs so attaching angle brackets and wood/steel frames to fit wouldn't be too huge of an engineering marvel.

It's certainly a cheap and easy way to get a cool LOOK in your car but I might consider a memory foam seat cushion in the trunk for a long haul for sure (see my post #186 in this thread)!

There's also these, which might do ya if you remove the headrests. They're about $400/pr which puts you $200 ahead of the game with covered and padded Speedway Bomber Seats (at sale prices, $611 as of today). They are made by EMPI (click the link, there are a ton) which seems to do a lot of race and dune buggy seats.

Speedway sells these for more money but they have the headrest delete.

Guys, I've been going to shows and have read just about every car mag in the last 40 years and I have NEVER seen lawn or living room furniture used as a seat in a T Bucket. I'm not saying no one did it (after drinking), I'm just saying I've never seen, read or heard about it. Hell, it doesn't even come up in a Google search! So, if you can post a pic or two, you'll have my attention. Otherwise....... moving right along.

Those are the sisters to the ones I'm going with. They're a little taller, even without the head rest, the base is longer and the seat area is an inch thinner. Which isn't much, but I just didn't care for the grommets.

LOL.... really. First, it's suggested I need to build a nice car and do a nice job, then I need to say, "screw it" and pay a pro and finally, those gawd damn cafeteria chairs keep popping up. If it was a joke, it's old now.:D

Yep, heard of lots of "test drives" using milk crates to sit on.
Does NOT mean this is a viable solution!

I might be thinking wrongly of Art and Mickey Himsl.
Blue 27T bucket. Think it had a beer keg gas tank. Was in the 50th Anniversary Grand Nationals.
Help me guys it is my vindication.

    Vindicated. Early Mickey Himsl T.

By the way if you want to see some great pictures of Hot Rods go to Himsl T buckets.

Although I would swear they were in it at the 50th Grand Nationals.

Not so fast. Perry Mason. The pics barely show the seats, which are probably fiberglass sportsman seats like these, but with nice covers.

You offer no details. No written facts. No tangible evidence to support your views. Oh, that last pic, in post#377, is a Model A Pick Up and the seats were custom made.;)

No, sir. The case is NOT closed and the court request PROOF. Not poor quality photographs.:D

You know Fred if you think that is what you are seeing go for it. Although I think I have the model and "we will see"

It is not over. Not by a long shot.

Not sure they made sportsman seats back then. Just because you pull something up now doesn't they were made way back then '60s.

yeah, 377 is the same one I posted a while back, except this pic is terrible!
The door handles/check straps give it away.

Reb, I Guess you could go with some vintage Brunswick bowling alley seating if you wanted to go bench seating...

For the record, I redid the interior of my Zipper three times before I was satisfied. First time was Sunbrella sarape pattern! Enough to gag a maggot.

  28. You're thinking about it wrong. It doesn't matter what something was intended for when it was built. What matters is:
    A. Does it fit & perform the function?
    B. Does it look right?
    C. Is it or can it be made sturdy enough for the job?

It's about seeing the shapes and forms, not the label on the tag.

I believe @chopt55bc 's truck, the Gherkin, used vintage bar stools as the base for the seats, if I'm not mistaken.

I wish that this thread could continue in the vein of serious options for T bucket interiors as Fred has intended.
All this other out in left field stuff is just that, too far off to even be taken seriously.

IMO it is far more than fit and performing the function.
That ugly thing you posted with the bar stools could be a poster for what not to do for your interior.
Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should.

Seeing shapes and forms can also depend on the level of your current medication :D:D
