the last few days my buddy Ciaran called to give me assistance with the 38.we have moved things along and made some good progress.some jobs are just 2 man jobs.truth be told ive been assisting him not the other way around..last job we did was drift the pins out of the hood side hinges and drilled the rivets out of the centre hood hinge so repairs can be made to the hood.it will be a lot easier to do with the hood taken apart..liberal use of WD 40 ensured it came apart without any drama.anyone trying this should spray the hinges with penetrating fluid well in advance of trying this.luckily the hood was straight and no serious rust was present anywhere.use quality punches

the inside surfaces of the hood don't look as if they were ever painted from new.there is a lot of surface rust present .I plan on immersing the hood in a 50 50 mix of vinegar and water to remove the surface rust.i saw this on utube and tried it on a small patch with great results.the rust came away with minimal effort leaving a shiny rust free surface.seems too good to be true.when u are finished rinse the vinegar mix off by hosing down with plenty of water.scotch brite pad is great to remove the rust.

section running boards 1 002.JPG running board that came with the truck are not the correct ones.they bolt to the rear fenders the bolt holes line up at the front they bolt up to the front fenders ok but need some modification..we took 2in out of the rear of it and welded it back up.it needs to be trimmed at the front as well.fantastic job kieran

  9. It's weird I ordered some fiberglass replacement ones(that is didn't end up using) and they were off almost exactly the same amount at the front.

strange allright.we trimmed 2 inches off the back.at that the ribs stop 7/8 in short of the front fender..i wonder are they from a 3/4 ton model.

  11. Not sure mine were suppose to be for a 1937 half ton. They were fine at the back but long like that at the front. Maybe yours are from a 3/4 ton.

076.JPG 075.JPG been working on the rear fenders.they have been through the wars.lots of stretched metal and some very thin metal in places had to replace some metal .made a stand to hold the fender while we are filling/sanding itused POR 15 on the underside.great tack to stick to light rust,i have a quart of POR 15 topcoat so ill give the underneath a coat of that as well, before sanding and treating it to a coat or two of underseal. as well..the crest of the fenders were pitted .no amount of sanding would have cured that so I sprayed the pitted area with VHT rust treatment to kill off the rust.a lighr coat of filler hopefully will make it looking like new.

stands constructed from 3/4 shuttering ply and 4x2.heavy enough for a stable platform while filling and sanding..cut a hole through the ply to allow access to the other side with the dolly.gonna make a second one will be handy when it comes around to spraying them.

068.JPG 074.JPG 070.JPG should have taken photos of the running boards before we started..no major rust but the front was beat stupid out of shape.as well as that I think they were from a 37 1/2 ton.anyway they didn't fit well.at the back 2 inch was removed and welded back together.bracket underneath was relocated.at the front 62mm was removed and rewelded.bracket relocated and sectioned..the bracket bolted to the frame was modified. dropped down 5/8.not so sure what the front wings were on originally but they fit very well now..phew cuttins stuff up is a big thing when you may not be able to source a replacement easily without breaking the bank..alls well that ends well. big thanks to CM for your help

finally got the front fenders in primer, and some paint on the rears front fenders in primer 004.JPG .there was some damage to the fenders at the creases at the rear of the fenders.it took some time to reclaim them.happy with how the creases turned out ,worth the effort in my opinion.nothing fancy about how the fenders were supported.it was getting late.we had to get the job done.should be well dried by monday
