Great photo. I see Hub's El Camino in the background. And one of the Dodges we talked about a few pages back. Where was that?
Here`s another issue of Custom Painting(1980). It has no customs in it other than Bob Johnsons 50 Merc that won the first King Of Merc` in 79.
Thank Goodness my photo skills have improved a little! Sent from my SM-G935V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Stanlow, does the mag say 1980 on it somewhere or do you have the phenomenal memory we all suspect you do? Dave
@rodncustomdreams Check on the table of contents page. Somewhere off to the side should be the publisher info, editor, etc. Under all that should at least be a copyright or printing date.
Sancho, you're right of course; but I could find nothing in any of the publisher's info boxes..! First thing I looked for was a publish date - but no luck. Of course it may be in some other discrete part of the mag.! I look more carefully when I have a moment. Dave
Went back and had a hard look. There was a discrete mention of "Copyright 1979" - so there you have it. I knew what to look for, just didn't look close enough - small print and old eyes! Thanks. Dave
Springfield in 85 where I took this was one of the first shows where they let me loose with the Nikon. I didn’t even break it. This is actually a pic of my pic that I took with my I-phone.
Mine was probably a 110 [emoji23] [emoji15] lol geez I didn't even get the whole car! Sent from my SM-G935V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
That's a great pic, @00 MACK! There's some history in that photo. I can see Hub's '59 El Camino in the background, as well as Doug Shoemaker's chopped '50 Dodge Wayfarer in ruddy brown primer! Looks like it was taken at the Leadsleds in Springfield, Ohio in '85. Am I right? E
Whooops, I posted the above response before I caught up with the other posts on the thread. Sorry..........E
Wow, they printed a lot of the Custom Painting series magazines over the years! I have the ones that @Rot 'n Kustom mentioned back in post #1850 and #1863, as well as the one with the yellow flamed '55 Chevy and the red El Camino that @rudestude posted in post #1859. The only other one I have nobody else has posted and it was from 1988. E
I`ve got that one too ED. And here`s one from 81, with not a single custom in it. @rodncustomdreams, I cheat a lot. 110 camera for me to back then. Here are a couple shots of Charlie`s Merc from Salina this past year that I took. Had to go to the store and get them off my camera. We tend to get off subject easily, don`t we. Thanks @da34guy for the info on the white Merc that you mentioned about in post 1840.
It`s Alley Oop with scallops. My dad was asking about this car the other day. I couldn`t find any current pic`s at the time.
oh wow!!! was this the same Alley OOp that Paul Mathis built and drove in white primer for years??? Scott Pavey? I love the scallops
I figured it was gonna be red. It was painted red in the trunk and door jambs. And under the hood. I`ve never seen it Black.
Yes that was the car used in the movie "Hollywood Knights"..... there was a car that was built by Kurt Baumann to look like the movie car... I think he did a very good look alike.... except for wheels...this is Kurt's car pictured.... Sent from my QTASUN1 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
