Hot Rods 1926 Tall T - Should I? Help!

Hey everyone, I have been asking a lot of questions lately about Model A's. I started my quest into the hot rod world with the idea of building a traditional T Bucket. I fell in love with Gene Chan's T and a few others. A lot of them on this board. Gene's T was one that inspired me and still to this day is burned into my mind.

So with all that being said. I kind of fell in love with Tall T's. I found one in my area a couple of years ago. I couldn't come up with the money at the time and the car was needing to be put back together. That didn't bother me so much since I would be tearing it apart. My love affair came crashing down the day I came up with enough money and he sold it an hour before I called him. So my hot rod dream was crushed. Until tonight.

I found a 1926 Model T. A Tall T! I talked to the guy who owns and we worked out a deal on it. I have to call him tomorrow and set things. I really want to ask more questions. I'm blinded by the dream of a Tall T right now and I need you guys to calm me down and ask the right questions. I will post the pictures of the T that he sent me.

Tell me what should I ask? What trouble spots should I look for and ask about? Is $6200.00 a fair deal. The car will be delivered to me. It looks so original that I think I may just drive around the way it is and collect some parts.

Tell me what you guys think and give me an idea of what I am getting myself into. I still may plunk the money down on a 1930 Model A truck. Depends on how the pictures look tomorrow. Watch for that thread. The 1931 Model A is also still on my radar but the owner and I can't work out a deal. Not yet at least. Maybe by next summer. Until there and with out further ado here are the pictures of the 1926 Model T that I have nick named T' Time.

 

Unless you actually want a Model T, all you really want is a body if you are thinking hot rod. You would not even use the T frame.

If you are building full fendered your better off buying this car as it's complete. If you're going g fender less find a body and build from there.

 

I bought my 26 T coupe for $3.5K. My avatar was when I brought it home. 15 months turned it into this.

 

I want a full fender car. Jaw22w do you have more pics? I dig that car.

I'm starting negotiations on a T, I'd love to see more of yours. Yours is about what I have in mind.

 

Tall T is redundant, they're all tall, get the T.

Now that's nice. One of the better looking T coupes I've seen. They definitely look better with full fenders.

 

I'd buy it and build it like this.

 

If it's a good runner you might squeak out a couple grand for the complete running gear, wheels, etc.

I agree with the majority, a "T" that nice? Don't cut it up man! Either leave it stone stock or build full fendered with tall top like the 2 shown here in the thread.

 

Go to ebay and look for "Gunman63". He is always selling 1926-27 T's and parts. It's not crappy shit. It's almost always in pristine condition and his prices are in the ball park. Buy the body and go from there.

 

The car is still for sale. I had an unexpected doctor bill from an emergency and have not recovered yet. The guy still has the car. I would leave it stock looking and full fender. Small block of some sort and modern breaks. Anesen style wheels. Maybe torque thrust.

BUY IT, DONT CHOP IT AND KEEP THE FENDERS ON IT. I would use the T frame box it and put a nice mild or stock motor in it. Those things are so light you dont need high horsepower. Actually a Flatty and 39 box would be the SHIT!!!

 

If I could come up with the money I would buy it and not chop it. I would run the fenders. I thought boxing the frame might be ok. Small block nothing to crazy. I want this car and it's just out of reach right now.

Also the Model A I found I would like but both are not going to happen.

I thought about taking a loan buying both doing them both and selling one to pay off the other. I would keep the T I think. It's more my style.
