Note the crowd reactions in these "accidents".

I do not like the cable throttle deal.
The cable cuts into the plastic jacket and gets stuck....

Just do a search for "Mustang runs into crowd" and you'll find a dozen or so.
    Other options include:
    • Mustang crashes into crowd
    • Mustang rams into crowd
    • Idiot in corvette
    • Idiot at car show
    • Ten a**holes you meet at a car-show
    etc etc etc

This also happened At NSRA event in Pueblo Colorado a couple years ago. It was a big H.P. Model A and two 60's cars if I remember right owned the the same guy also. Same scenario well maybe a little different. Throttle Stuck wide open by DRUNK older women Driving her DUMB ASS boyfriends Model A, She took out two people also one hurt badly. I will post pics when I find them. she was arrested, DUMB ASS should have been arrested to. Just my opinion.

OH yeah first thing several guys did was check the throttle system. It was alcohol and stupidity. Also just my opinion.

The thing that anyone with a "specialty vehicle" of any sort has to remember is that there are, in my opinion, literally thousands of "uninformed" individuals who would like nothing better than to see our car hobby legislated out of existence. For that reason, I don't understand poking fun at something like this. Any occurrence like originally posted adds fuel to the fire of their attempts to outlaw the hobby. The purpose of my posting was to try and find-out what happened and hopefully, if it was mechanical, try to find and publish ways prevent to it from happening again. Unfortunately, there are too many "loose nuts" behind the wheel that do not understand the possible consequences of their momentary carelessness. (End of sermon)

IMO, possibly the worse throttle set up out there. I had one get stuck, while turning a corner, so I wasn't going fast. When I stopped and checked it, the cable had frayed and gotten jammed inside the tubing. Made a mechanical linkage the next day.

My grandkids are always in the barn with me and know not to touch, but that doesn't mean shit. All of my vehicles have neutral safety's plus a battery cut out that works on a FOB.
Even got one on their go cart that I have used more than once when first learning the ropes and fundamentals. Kids will be kids and we do not want them hurt.

No wonder why my insurance is damn high on my pony drop top... And I don't have any points on my driving record.....:(

  13. Still, How did it get wide open?
I can show you 10,000 carb's without any return spring that are close and remain closed as their normal state.

  14. another argument for 3 pedals. #1 gets stuck, push #2&3........turn key if engine hasn't "shut" it self off.

LoneStar RU a few years ago. Started the car thru the window. No neutral safety switch. Knocked my car back 20 feet. Could have killed a dozen people. Ran all the way across the isle. P1020172.JPG

  16. The only thing I can do about it is that any car without a NSS that comes here , well it doesn't leave until it gets NSS.

You wouldn't believe the BS excuses.

I understand and agree with what you are saying about public perception. I will point out that folks who drive "specialty vehicles" for the most part the safest drivers on the road, we care about our machines and operate them in a manner to keep them from harm. There is a much higher percentage of loose nuts and idiots out on our roads in civilian cars.

....Agreed. Instead of saying "too many" loose nuts.....I should have said "a very few" that tend to do some things that give the hobby a black eye. I guess "ONE" would be considered "too many".

One of my pet peeves. NEVER start the engine on a vehicle if you are not in a position to control that vehicle, this means sat in driver seat, arms and legs in position to access all controls.

I have a couple friends who while at a show or cruise night are in the habit of starting their manual transmission hot rods while standing next to the car. They are both generally responsible and intelligent people, I don't understand why they have this habit. It bugs the hell out of me every time they do it.

As for neutral safety switches, the are a good idea for sure. Though I will point out that an automatic transmission equipped machine with no neutral safety switch posses no more risk than a manual transmission equipped machine. If one follows the rule that I have stated above, there shouldn't be a problem either way.

  21. Bull shit! !
Tap the starter in gear and the starter needs to move the car as well as spin the engine. It will lurch but probably not start.

The converter allows the starter to spin at full speed and the engine start. The car goes where it's pointed.

Neither one is good but a manual Trans is no where near the same.

Sad stuff , this one reason I quess I’m showing my age anymore . I hate to see the AHs doing burnouts at a show or cruise in . This is one of the events that is always answered “ that happened there it will not happen here “ , well it does and sooner or later it will . As far as starting in gear , riding an old kick start , hard shift Pan has broken me of a few errors . Also be sure it’s in neutral before hitting the starter , second never sit at a traffic light holding the clutch in while in gear . You will be supervised at the effects one little tap in the rear will cause when you unknowingly release the clutch . Just use that head for something other than a hat rack , and be prepared for the worst to happen .

Yeah, you're right, a car is less likely to start in gear with a manual vs. an automatic.

My main point is, don't try to start the engine in a vehicle unless you are in a position to control that vehicle. Follow that rule and in almost all situations, there won't be a big problem.

  24. You're one of those guys without a NSS. Rationalize it all you want, excuse it till the cows come home. Every word of it is Bull shit.

Which is bull shit? The part where I say you're right and agree with what you posted, or the part about not starting the car if you're not in a position to control it?

P.S. What the hell is NSS?

Ah, should have been obvious. From the tone of his post, I thought maybe it was some sort of code for an insult.

You didn't answer my first question ("Which is bull shit?"). I reckon I'll just have to assume you just like to argue, even when someone agrees with you.
