Many years ago we all went to cruise Paradise in Hawaii. There was a man there with a car with no neutral safety switch. On more than one occasion he started it in gear and had near accidents. Very quickly all realized not to park anywhere near them. At a NSRA show a few years back a person jumped in Model A with a blown motor and fired it up. Yep, no neutral safety switch and a way it went in reverse-people scrambled and the car hit a big pillar on the building. Luckily no one was hurt.

Could the use of 3-4-500hp engines in cars equipped with 1930s drum brakes (for the period correct look!) be part of the problem?

  4. lets see, a neutral safety switch is not merely "a good idea" that's like saying forbidding children from playing on the highway is "a good idea" or not causing an accident is a "good idea" or not looking down the barrel of a loaded gun is "good idea". That stuff isn't optional without consequence. The consequences of which are natural and when they do happen shouldn't be looked at with wonderment of why.

Which part is bullshit ? Ok here you go.
Your "tone" of authority and writing the rules is bullshit
    Your main point is bullshit
Really I've heard every excuse and rationalization for not having a NSS and it boils down to just one thing. Not being able to figure out how to get it to work with the parts present. No one could reasonably object to one being operational on any vehicle but since it takes a bit to get one to work then it's easier to make excuses and rules or rationalize why it's not needed. Lokar gives an easy option of hooking up just one, either backup lights or NSS and most choose to hook up the B U lights and make excuses for the NSS.

Simple linear action NSS from a Honda.
Adapt it to any shifter or linkage and you get starter enable in P&N reverse BU lights and starter disabled.

  5. It's the bunch of lazy asses "oh I'll hook that up later" Which of course is after they plow into something. Safety First. ")

It's not the throttle cable that's the problem, it's the idiot with the bigger ego than a brain that can't control the car! The "my throttle got stuck" or "my brakes gave out" are some of the oldest, BS excuses around when something like this happens.

I think you nailed it on the head with a NSS being over most people’s heads on how’s to hook one up. Also most people think they are “ smarter then the average bear”,
“ I won’t start my car in gear”
“ I won’t start my car through the window “
“ jeez I’m not THAAAT stupid”

No, sorry, you are, we all are. As the old saying “ I’ve done it a million times and nothing’s gone wrong”............ untill it does.

My saying when I was doing automotive and now Forklift’s and heavy equipment is...... “ It HAS to steer and stop, it doesn’t have to run if the other two don’t work”!

Every customer I go to now, when they are gun-ho about safety and everything is over the top safe all have “ The story” . Of an employee getting seriously hurt on the job and the government coming in and just ass fucking the company .... but wait there’s more finning them shutting them down while an investigation takes place, getting sued by said former ( hurt ) employee and then having to get the workplace safety compliant.
And after all that having spot checks for the next 3-4 years to keep fucking you and finding shit you need to fix and update.

One place a guy lost 2 fingers company lost 500,000 in fines and repairs and shit down for 3 weeks while said repairs where done. Not to mention the payout to the employee .... for two fingers !!

There never seems to be time or patience to be safe and do things correctly from the start.
But there is always time to do it AFTER the fact....... funny how that always pans out.

Be safe keep your stick on the ice!
