Projects Two things make a car: Wheels and stance.

  1. I've always said, with the right wheels and stance, ANYTHING can look good! Even this old thing...

    Some damned good examples of you don't have to go spend a crap load of money to have great looking wheels and a lot of times cleaning up an painting the steelies you just threw out back and replaced with what the tire store had on sale for cheaps would have been a much better idea.
    I took my 48 to it's first rod run in 1973 when I drove from McGregor Tx to Tulsa for the 73 Street Rod Nationals. If you were and saw a gold 48 Chev pickup with Camaro Rally wheels on it you saw it. Not a world beater but it did get some compliments. Wheels with beauty rings and 3 hubcaps cost me 25 bucks from a coworker who had put mags on his Z28 and then traded it off.
    Even then I saw guys with the chrome or white spoke trailer wheels on their rides because that was the cheapest thing that the tire store had the day they went for wheels that fit their car. Add to that to a number they all had same size front an rear tires so they could rotate the tires and the cars weren't lowered front or back. That has continue all though the years. Guys who don't have a real plan go to the tire store and take what ever the kid at the tire store says is the hot lick or what ever is the cheapest aftermarket wheel in the store that doesn't look like a snow tire wheel.
    You run though the cars the guys posted and outside of the somewhat dated set of shiny wires and the street rod wheels on one other car most of the wheel tire setups are well within most budgets. No 4000 buck sets of rims and tires there and the majority are spot on as far as looking right while a couple may need hubcaps to finish the look.
    My wheels even though they are old now are still OT for the Hamb but the tire store kids almost had a fit when I ordered 14x7 for the front and 15x8 for the rear and then put 195 60 14 on the front and 255 60 15 on the back with specific instructions to put the ugly white letters on the inside. The kid who installed them about cried when he had to put white letters to the inside but liked the look when he stood back and looked at the truck after the new wheels and tires were on it.
    That's going away and this time it gets white walls and hubcaps and the rear will be a bunch lower. It still might have a slight rake though.

    With respect I think the wheels and tires shown in your pics doesnt start to do the car justice in letting it reach its full potential like something like this (or other???) would.

    DAMN! That car nails it with the biggest hammer possible. Color(s) play a huge factor also.

    Wonder who your speaking to with this post?? Would be better if you mentioned who your addressing,. Nice 33/34 though and the fact that is also channeled and shinny black enhances it exponentially.

    BEFORE = LOWERED with dog dish.
    AFTER = RAISED with dog dish. OL YELLER 55 001.JPG 000_0135.JPG 000_0173.JPG
    AFTER = RAISED with vintage 5 spokes.
    You be the judge but I guess it doesn't really matter as car was sold. ( I DUNNO )

    Not one of the choices but it would be lowered with five spokes for me.
    Second choice=lowered with dog dish caps.
    No wrong choice with a 55 two-ten as the pallette.

    Whaddayou talk'n ta me? Just to make you happy I have a third set of wheels and tires. '49 Chevy 15's with 8.00's for the rear and 7.20's for the front, so it can reach its full potential. IMG_3388.JPG (Those are the 800's, but those wheels aren't what I'm using.). Would the '49 Chevy hubcaps be ok, or Spiders, chrome lug nuts and trim rings? I'll need to know soon!

    These 2 things are definitely significant in making a car for sure and I agree almost anything can look cool when these are added. But there are things that can take away from that pretty quick for me like exposed front clips, using non-original frames or an overall shoddy compilation of parts without a good solid theme. Soooo many great examples on here as the result of soooo much great talent and taste.
