Bonneville still looks pretty much like this now!

  2. I remember walking across those rocks in my tennis shoes in 1956 and burning my feet! In 57 The Dalles dam was built and it all went under water. Great entertainment watching the Indians fish for salmon. It was LOUD!

  5. No. For all the folks that NEEDED lumber to build a house to get out of the weather. No demand, no supply.

Great photo. Of course the Studebaker is what I focused in right away. Does anybody know where this track is/was?

That Santa is pretty creepy looking too. Very disturbing photo, but in a f'ed up funny way.

The first attached photo is of Billy Betteridge who was one of the first starts of midget racing. Looks like another photo taken at Gilmore.

The second photo is really interesting as it appears that someone has a adapted some kind of Formula car for dirt track racing. I've certainly never seen this car before. Is there any info on this one, Rootie?

    Thanks!

All I know is that the driver is Dick Williamson (related to Kramer maybe?) at Flemington mid 50s. It is a interesting car, you don't see 4-link rear suspension on many dirt cars especially back then. I'd be interested to see what's under the body work.

I believe that car was owned by Dusty Thacker, and had future Indy car driver Jerry Karl.

    the nose was changed.

Maybe I am just a newby, but why do dragcars have no cooling? How do they survive?

    Leaking oil? No, sweating horsepower

Cooling off after a summer rainstorm in my neighborhood, if you look close you will see my uncles 37 Lincoln coupe at the end of the street. IMG_1170.jpg
