Here are a couple of pics from a couple of years ago when I helped pull it out of the barn. The barn was up in the mountains west of Laramie Wy. It has been sitting in a garage here in town since. I wasnt finished my coupe at the time and was not ready for another project. I had heard the car was available the other day and I jumped on it. Not sure of plans for it yet. I will post some more pics when I get it in my shop.

The Thomas Fire is a heartbreaking natural disaster. We hope that the citizens of Ventura County stay safe and that the fire is able to be contained quickly. I hope you all are ok there ......

I have a couple of other sort of Hill climb friendly cars. I have a stock roadster that is painted bright red. Some patina on it as it was restored by my grandpa and dad in 1964. I also have a 50 Chevy convertible and 30 Chevy sedan. They would be good for the reliability run but maybe not the actual hill climb because they are restored to pretty much original. I don’t know what my plans are yet for this car. I have a mercury motor I can put in it if I want to go the AV8 route. I do want to keep the fenders. I will see how I feel about it once I get it running. I would recommend the hill climb and the dirt drags to anybody who likes traditional hot rods.

New here and don't understand all I need to know about this thread yet. But I do know I have a Roof 101 Cyclone head on order from Charlie. I have gathered iron headers, intake with Stromberg 97, and a Lion's head 6.5/1. My plans are to build up the Lion's head first with a Stipe cam and the rest of my goodies along with a B crank. I am looking forward to this engine build. The Roof will be a later project.

Are you planning to put the B crank in the A block? Or will you be building a B engine?

Yes, B crank in A block for the flathead build. I have a B block that needs checked out. If its decent I will use it for the Roof build later in my life. :)

Got the new to me sedan home today. It is in much better shape than I remember. The body is pretty straight and no rust. I think it was always a Wyoming car. The former owner said he drove it back and forth when he was teaching at the university of Wyo.

Does anyone know how much you can cut a stock head to gain compression and performance?

maybe clay top it before you cut , or check a Snyder head against yours

  15. What’s the extra gauge?
By the looks of the hard line, it could be oil pressure or temp, or am I totally off here, @Binger?

If you haven't done the machine work yet. Instead of cutting the main bearing journals down to the A diameter, look into Using Corvair rod bearing inserts for the main bearings. They are @ 1.800". That is about the biggest you can go with the stock A main bolt spacing. It is much better then taking the mains down to the A diameter of 1.5"

Just wanted to drop in ,been following for a little while I’m new to the four banger club, having bought my self a little roadster the other month that has a diamond block engine with a twin carb Ansen manifold (not been able to find another quite like this one , would be interested if any one has any info over if it’s original early speed part or a modern repop) and two ford 94’s on top.

Never played with anything like this before , had a Harley bobber before this (shovelhead ) and apart from that only ever helped out on with quarter mile BBC and Hemi motors .

It’s currently it’s not running rebuilt the carbs after it turned up as they were leaking fuel like mad, having rebuilt them it’s now not leaking but it’s also now not running , it has a mechanical 5.5psi fuel pump with no regulator I’m guessing now its not loosing the pressure that was bleeding out past the gaskets is now pushing past the needle and just flooding into the engine so I’m going to get a regulator on the fuel line and see if a reduce in pressure will bring some life back to the motor.

Els Lohn (EELCO) bought the rights from Lou Senter to reproduce the Anson line of aluminum engine products. Even if it’s a repro, it was produced by pioneer in the speed equipment business.

Not enough to make a difference. You would have to cut off over .25" to see any benefit. But the deck surface isn't that thick.

That’s fascinating either way it’s a cool peice of speed equipment , the old nostalgic in me hopes it an original Ansen intake bolted on maybe some time in the forties by some slick haired teen desperate to squeeze a little more ooomph out of his old jalopy to keep up with the Jone’s boy and his new fangled v8. All the ones I’ve seen have the ribs and the Ansen logo on the side mines on the top between the carbs .

Thanks , still have to pinch my self some times !

I think it is a temp gauge but I haven't had a chance to look at it too closely. I am in the middle of building a small work shop in my new garage and I haven't spent any time with the new car. I will take a closer look and get back to you.

There is a place for a ball on that bumper bracket. I don't know if it is an original ford part. I don't know what they look like. It is possible it could be. I will keep everyone updated with what I end up doing with it. I like the idea of getting it running and driving it around as a beater.

  26. Dan,
another option, there is a rod bearing for a Saturn, that goes 1.850 on the journal and still fits between the stk A main bolts. I will publish the bearing insert number when I get back next week.

PLEASE NEVER TRY TO FIT A BEARING INSIDE ANY POURED BABBIT. IT WILL FAIL!!! BABBIT DOESN'T SUPPORT THE BEARING WELL OR TRANSFER HEAT PROPERLY

SORRY FOR NOT POSTING EARLIER. THE FORUM UPDATES ARE JUST NOT COMING TO ME.......

STILL HERE. STILL HALF BLIND I WILL POST AS I CAN ANOTHER USELESS OPERATON IN FEB. I'VE LOST COUNT.....

So i havent been posting too much or working on cars much. With haveing a couple of little kids and a bunch of stuff around the house. I went on a year long construction faze at my house. Built a carport corrals and a old west styled building and out house and hay shed. Anyways enough excuses.

I was at the RPM nationals and raced my 35 ford v8, it was the 2nd slowest car there. Only beat a completely stock possibly poorly tuned banger driven by a teenager. But seeing the OHV bangers was awesome and decided that i did indeed need one. So i bought an unused roof 101 cyclone off ebay. Its sitting in my garage right now.

I need a better engine as the one in my RPU has a kinda knocking noise mid to high rpms and more so in left hand turns. Goes away in right hand turns. Anyways I need a new one. I think i want to buy one of Berts insert short blocks. I talked to them and they can leave out the intake valves and can add a br*** and billet timing set. Is there anything else i should have them do to the block? I dont want to go full pressure.

But think i want full flow filtering, not too sure how to accomplish this with sending oil to the head. Mr Yapp is very busy right now so i dont want to bug him. But if i filter the oil out of the lifter valley and run a line up from the side of block, i wont be filtering all of it? Would a t fitting after the filter not provide the 4psi that the roof head needs?
