"Lots of work..." indeed!! The Hedworth car in the attached picture was also a conversion and it was not a simple undertaking. I recall a good deal of sweat, a bit of blood, and some very colorful language was involved in swapping out the sedan delivery rear door for a station wagon tailgate.
Double batch today Bob Lambeck Bob Newberry Bobby Warren Brainbeau Olds at Connecticut. I had the pleasure of watching them run a lot.
And a beautiful "Wagon" it is!!! I'd love to have a 56 150 Handyman; friend's got one, but he won't sell. I like them plain Jane. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
Before they were known as Junior Stockers, there were lots of stock cars running on the dragstrips around the country.
While 55 - 57 Chevrolets were the most popular cars in Junior Stock, there were other makes. Here is a '56 Plymouth Fury in H/S racing in the mid-60's.
More new cars from the 50's that showed up at the dragstrip. This time it was a new '58 Oldsmobile against a new '58 Pontiac. That may have been a J2 Olds (with 3x2) vs a Tri-power Pontiac.
My friend called last night; he's SOLD his 56, 150, Handyman Wagon! Then, he offers to buy my Sedan Delivery (NOT for sale). Never say never I guess. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
Loudbang - Great batch! Note the F.I. setup sitting on the ground. Today it's worth twice what the car cost new.
Ed Wright still races, now in a Super Stock Firebird. I believe he won an LODRS event this past summer.
The 58 Pontiac was running the tri-power and the 57 Olds was running the J2 (their version). What a great pairing to see. Warren
The J2 Oldsmobile option had 3x2 barrel carburetors for 1957 and 1958. It was factory rated at 312 horsepower.
