Looks great Mike. I don't know much about torches but a friend says you need to clean the torch tip periodically. Quick fix if that is what's up with yours. Good luck

This is my solution to the steering....

Went as smooth as I could’ve asked for.

It also lowers the angle of the column and will help me have the wheel further away from the dash which is a huge help.

It’s not finished yet but it works exactly as I had hoped.

Thanks for the kind words fellas.
    I’m gettin there.

Ya I had enough of that. I went and bought myself a set. I didn’t know something so simple could cause so much frustration lol

I love your raised steering box mount solution. Looks like it solves 3 problems. 1. Steering column rake. 2. More flathead V8 header clearance. 3. And most importantly....better drag link angle on lowered car. Should work well!

    Thank you

As I was figuring out what I had to do, it just made sense to do it this way. It does everything you said too. Surprised more people don’t do it this way.

I like what you engineered for the mounting of the steering box.. Makes perfect sense!! I think when I get to my sedan I will use your approach .. If you don't mind.. Very helpful ideas with your build.. Thanks...

I ended up modifying the height of the mounting surface for the steering box flange (Model A ). I lowered it 1/4” to add a bit more clearance of the motor. Got the mount bolted to the top of the frame rail and got an idea of how the pitman arm and link will be positioned.
    [IMG][IMG][IMG]
I can’t mount my front seats due to the box tube frame I had built to strengthen the body for the time being.

So I’ll do a temp column drop where the wheel is positioned now.

    Onward

Looks good Mike, I like the way you moved the steering box. I think I may have a problem with mine when I get to making the headers.

Certainly isn’t much room to work with. I was fortunate to have a modified drivers side header to help. It looks even with the box moved you would still need to modify one.
I look forward to the video update !

Picked away yesterday at a few things on the car.
Got my clutch linkage sorted out, it wasn’t fully disengaging the clutch.
Mounted both headers and made sure things fit.
Built a temporary column drop till my F1 drop shows up.
Thought I had one but it was an F-100. (Tube circumference is larger)

I don’t like it but the time spent building it is worth it for the experience. [IMG]

Had to make a Rear backing plate into a Front backing plate. I thought I had a clean set but only had a nice drivers side.
    So now I have one ... [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]
Got a bunch of other little things off my list too.

    Enjoy your Christmas everyone !
Thanks for being part of the journey.

It really surprised me too ... what you said makes sense. “Monkey see, Monkey Do “

Kinda stinks I probably didn’t even have to swap to the A flange.

Few pictures of what I’ve been working on the past couple days.

Got my F1 column drop in the mail today as well as some brake parts.
So those items are on the list for the weekend.

I think I’m going to follow through with a 2” channel. It’s been a mental debate I’ve had for over a year ... I finally made my mind up the other day.
I think it helps with the proportions of the long body.
So the final position of the column will have to wait until the channel is done.
I set the firewall up for lowering it when I recessed it over the summer. (I was thinking ahead) and the rear fender body line in my opinion needs to be down with the height of the tire... so as usual I’m off to unchartered territory.

Picked up everything to start it the other day.

I got my tire cover fenders mocked up for now and a whole bunch of other small things off the list the past few days.

I’m feeling good where I’m at... I like the look of the front fenders.

Hope everyone had a great holiday !
    Happy New Years !!

    Be safe !

    Here’s to 2018
