He painted the letters by hand brush.

In New York State, the DMV requires a picture of unrestored plates and then they will give you the OK. I have a friend that has his car registered with YOM plates and you can just about read the numbers, but that's OK. Restore the plate and make it look new so that you can read the numbers and they reject them. Doesn't make much sense, but that's New York. Most people send in the unrestored pictures and then restore the plates when they get the registration. I don't think there is a police officer in existence that will ever cite anyone for "restored plate".

  3. What are they gonna do...carbon-date the paint? Just tell them it was always kept inside.

I have good luck running yom plates on all my cars and never had any hassle from dmv as to condition. I took each plate to Lincoln personally to have the sticker attached. 1st plate pictured was pretty rough, 5-xxxx and my 2nd plate 40-xxxx was restored & both were accepted with no questions. its the same car, before & after re-build 5-9-08c.JPG 2015-03-06 20.42.37.jpg

    Something about restored plates that
makes them look like plastic reproductions.
    A little patina is good.
But, that's just an opinion, not a fact.
