Here are a couple of trucks from Moon Eyes Christmas Party at Irwindale, CA drag strip yesterday.
The COE appears to have been created from a Chevy (?) pu cab, went by a couple times but no one around.
The second is a conventional cab, but it's all about the stacks.

  3. There is a chance the "stacks" are stainless, that's way better than 3 foot sections of black stovepipe with elbows on top. (I've seen that also)
Be interesting to see how the steering was done on the red and blue one

Just a guess... red and blue COE on a motorhome chassis so the steering works were already present? That is a wonderfully creative solution to "Wanting a COE, but I only have this in the back yard...".

And I agree with wetskier's comment.

  6. The only motorhome chassis with solid axle I've dealt with had the steering box 3' ahead of the axle. (Early 70s Dodge chassis) This one is pretty stubby with the spring eyes a foot ahead of the body work. I suppose a side steer box could be mounted very close to axle centerline.

  8. Appears there is some confusion over on Hotrodders forum.
Don't know how much of that 35 is original, (Fenders aren't big enough) but I'm pretty sure the nose panel is from the original coach builder. (Eaglesfield and Irish)
If there are only 4 left, it's pretty special!

That's very cool.... This site talks about various builders of COEs for Ford... We all know Marmon-Herrington, but I had not heard of Eaglesfield or Perkins COEs before.

In fact Transportation Engineers were one of a handful of firms building Ford-based COE (cab over engine) chassis in 1935. Eaglesfield & Irish Co., a small Indianapolis, Indiana-based manufacturer, offered its own take on the Ford COE as did its Indianapolis neighbor, Marmon-Herrington, who offered a similar vehicle albeit with all-wheel-drive.

  18. This one sold today for $1,136 on Ebay! 1952 U-7062 Autocar. Set up with an oddly short wheelbase for the body length. Looks to be in pretty fair shape. (much better than mine was) s-l1600.jpg

Saw that earlier.....hate the color, but a really interesting truck. Front wheel placement is, um, different.
    Otherwise, proportions are excellent.

Matching Bike looks nice. By the signage it looks like So-Cal are involved.

The truck is owned by Barron Guss, it was in memory to Pete Chapouris. It didn't say but I'm guess that SO-CAL was involved with the build. Here are a couple more pictures. My COE had the stacks off being re-chromed forced to drive my roadster. The outside pix was taken at about 9 am, before the gates opened and no crowds.

Here are a couple pictures of a truck that was being displayed in the building. I took these pictures at Good Guys at Scottsdale in November. The owner is Alan Yee, from HI. I don't know how it got to the mainland in one piece.

Thanks Blue, it's been mine since January, 1965. Painted in Rust-oleum red primer since 1983, I apply a fresh coat of Johnson's paste wax every five years whether it needs it or not. Sorry not COE related

  30. Not many easy choices for engine in the box. With the engine facing forward, could be Toronado transaxle or boat V-drive. Hemi under glass used a V-drive with engine facing forward
