Checking things off my list Got the steering finished up. Drilled and tapped the column drop and mounted it to the dash. Also welded the new section of early steering shaft to the f1 shaft so i can run the 39 banjo. Also sectioned the column tube to fit. Also got the headlight stands mounted up. Starting to come together. Almost time to come apart for final welding on the frame.
I didnt like the placement of the f-1 pedals in relation to the column. The brake pedal was hitting the back of the block when depressed. I decided to take about 2 inches out the pedals for a better fit. Also had to heat and bend the brake pedal out a little. Much better fit when it was done.
I like all the details on shorting the pedals. I have a question about using the f1 cross member. Some folks are moving the M/C mount inboard. what is the reason for this?
thanks! if you don't move the f1 pedal mount inboard on the crossmember, the clutch pedal arm will make contact with the frame rail. you have to move it inboard to clear it
No dimension. Just figure out where it works best for you. I moved mine enough to clear the frame rail. You want your steering column to fall in between the pedals. So keep that in mind when you are setting it up
I love this build. I'll be following it. I'm impressed with how you tackle everything yourself. Sent from my SM-G935F using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Thanks! I really enjoy your builds as well. Thats most of the fun for me, trying to figure out how all this stuff is supposed to go together. Hopefully the only thing ill have to farm out before its done is the interior. Almsot time to warm up my paint gun!
I've ordered some of those lower S hoses too. They're from Finland which isn't too far from me. Sent from my SM-G935F using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Decided the car needed to be a tad bit lower. Sourced an original 33-36 axle that had been dropped. Also picking up a model t spring to get the rear down a bit. I thought i was set on running the early 32-34 style exhaust manifolds, but i decided to fit up some headers. I bought some cheapo speedway headers and a box of tubing bends to see if i could make it work. Passenger side fit good. Basically all i used from the drivers side header were the flanges. Still need to tie in the back exhasut port. But it should work fine.
Just read through the whole thread to come up to date. It looks like you are really coming along on it for the time you actually get to work on it.
Thanks, yeah i wish i had more time. With two small children and a wife, plus i work shift work. And the OT is crazy at work. I had over 800 hours overtime this past year. And it wont slow down. Oh well, it will get done!
Got a few things done last week, fit the new headers and worked on the exhaust pipes. Cut a 36 driveshaft in half. Mocked up the placement, i think i will angle them out a little more
Also got a few new goodies in the mail, looks like ill be redoing my rear. Have to tear it down and remove the pinion gear To have it machined. And order up a few sets of change gears. Ill try to do a pretty detailed build on the quick change. Its a new rodsville unit from Hot Rod Works. Good guys to deal with Temp gauge ive been hunting for a while .still need to find a fuel gauge
Also played around with some top ideas. Made a frame up out of 3/4 emt and 1" strap. Got the idea from a thread here. Ran some tape on it just to give an idea of the shape. Gotta make up a header for the windshield. It wont be foldable.
Im still plugging away. Work has been cramping my style lately. Managed to get in the shop today and cut some holes.
man that's one heck of a score for a parts find! Did you get all that or is that the guys place that you're buying what you need from?
Looking forward to reading up on this. Not much experience with the quick changes here, and I really want to know how to build them for potential future builds. Thanks.
