Yep. Appears to be a '50 Champion. Either a Starlight coupe or a business coupe (based on the shape of the B pillar).

Nice trove of Buicks. My dad was the quintessential Buick owner from 41 to 82. He owned many new models and styles over the years he was around. At first, it was the 41 fastback sedan he bought in Nor Cal and drove to Long Beach. Then, at our first house in 1949 on the Westside of Long Beach, a huge black 4 door Roadmaster.

He would look at other models as soon as they came out in September/October of every year and would take us to the car dealers to see what was new and exciting. Once we looked at a 56 Buick Skylark convertible. (for my mom actually…but, did not buy it.)

But, he always ended up at the local Campbell Buick / Boulevard Buick dealership on American Ave. (which turned into Long Beach Blvd.) where he bought his string of Buicks over the years: ( 49 Roadmaster 4 door, 52 Roadmaster 4 door, 57 Roadmaster 2 door, 62 Wildcat 2 door, 63 Riviera, 67 Riviera, 73 Regal, 78 Regal, 82 Regal…all 2 doors after the kids got their driver’s licenses in 57 & 60).

He was once offered a Chrysler Turbine Experimental Car to drive for a year as a test…my mom shut that down. One other time my brother and I took him to look at a new Volvo (with leather and infinitely, adjustable, driver’s seat) and he shook his head, no, afterwards. He was a die hard, Buick guy to the end.

Your Dad sounds like mine, he was a Chevy guy until he came home after WWII and bought a Buick. He had nothing but Buicks from the first 46 Roadmaster until he passed in 1988. I guess I got the Buick habit from him as I am the same.

That is interesting that your dad started with a Chevy. Here is a photo from my dad's photo album showing him in 1939, in front of his 1938 DODGE sedan somewhere in San Pedro. I am pretty sure this is his first real car. (Out of college for a few years, playing semi pro baseball, traveling, etc.) But, by the time we popped up, he was a very quiet man and his thoughts were of Buicks and Buicks only.

That is actually a 1936 Dodge Brothers sedan. I have owned a couple of them.

Thanks for the correction on the sedan. Sorry, it was written under the old photo as a Chevy. So...from a "not old Dodge knowledge" guy, I listed it as a Chevy. I am sure no one in our family was actually a car person from the beginning, except for my brother and me. But, Dodge knowledge is lacking...so, thanks for the correction.

I will have to tell the rest of the remaining family that it was a Dodge, not a Chevy. Actually, that Dodge sedan looks a little "gangsterish," which will bring a chuckle to the family. We saved my dad's "gangster" hat from his late 30's days and have used it for dress up days for our son and granddaughter. I can see him wearing it while driving that Dodge sedan.

 

Yep....my 1936 DB was used as an advertisement for a topless girls bar in Detroit called, "Dirty Harry's Speakeasy" on Michigan Avenue. I took my own photos of it with my Instamatic camera at the shoot....the rest of the photos are VERY revealing....

 

Yep, it was that B pillar that got my attention!
