My Dad worked there for 28 yrs starting in the 50's. He used to park his "56 Beetle directly under the discharge in the winter, and when he got off work to go home at about 3-4 am, they're d be no snow on the car, and it'd already be warmed up! He daily drove his Beetle for over 25 yrs, from new. Sorry I don't have a photo of the Beetle there, the entire bakery building is gone, but I still have the '56 Beetle!"

Many race vehicles were flat towed to the track. The trailer balls would have made attaching the tow bar quick and easy. A friend had a set up like that on his dirt track car. He would take his race tires/wheels off, put on four rollers and tow the car with his pickup.

I recognized the license plate and the style of house...
This was taken somewhere in Albuquerque, NM. Or at least the car was registered in Bernalillo County.
In NM in those days the 1st # on the plate designated the county of registration; 1 for Santa Fe County, 2 for Bernalillo County, etc, etc, etc;

 

I remember cars being towed to the drag strip back when I was a kid. Most had "RACE CAR IN TOW" in the rear window, just so people behind them knew.
