Watcha using for wood?? Some hard ass oak??

 

We are using a tight grain red oak. We ran short and are going to Tucson to pick up some more today.

Looks like your a Zonie too and I dig your flathead build style in the 3 window, what part of the state are you in?

 

Did some rough fitting of the wood on the drivers door and then worked on some of the small bits.

 

Down in Bisbee. I’m doing the roadster with a later model flathead also...not as many cylinders.

...at the same time, makes me excited to get back on my '27 tub...

Thanks, I don’t have good enough examples of the cowl and a-pillar wood to duplicate so I bought those pieces from Brad’s. Really amazing quality, I would say perfect.

Did some more fitting of the drivers door wood, all it needs is screws and final sanding.....and some metal work.

Started fitting the wood to a drivers door skin I have. The plan is to marry this up with whichever passenger door I don’t use and move them along.

Worked on fitting wood a little this morning then started on replacing the top of the second passenger door. As you can see in the third picture the top looks like lace.

I ordered the screws and a special tapered bit that does the countersinking for you.

Looks good. Fine metalwork and woodwork so far.

I'll buy that lacey top piece if you'd be willing to sell and ship it to me, all I need it for is a pattern and measurements so it would do just fine. Let me know, thanks.

I had NO IDEA how much wood was in the structure of a 33/34 roadster!! Lot of work!! Subscribed , want to see "the rest of the story".

Are those new door skins?

 

I’m trying to keep as much of the original metal as possible. I used a new door skin as a donor to repair the top of one passenger door and the bottom of the other passenger door. The second drivers door is a new skin that I’m going to build into a door.

Steve from McPherson auto fabricated the door skins last year for me.
