Yep the car in the ad above is this one. It is "OFFICIALLY" the only 427 Dragon Snake Shelby Produced.
There is something very goofy about the rear wheel arches on this unit, not a fan of them, but obviously one bad ass automobile!

Randall it's an optical illusion as it has a big radius and the front of the "fender" tapers in towards the door so it makes it look weird

I don't think so. In my opinion just a terrible wheel arch cut choice. It is like the wheel was not centered in the arch when they cut it, plus they messed with the backspace or something and sucked the wheel and tire further back in then its road coarse cousin...I don't know....I still say there is something wrong with it as I have seen this car from every angle possible and the are all "fugly"! LOL

Nice read. Amazing how things have changes in drag racing. All that engine in that car and only doing mid to high 10's. Today with all the things we know about suspension, tire tech and engine development, Where would it be now?

From the linked article and the leading edge of the rear flares cut back to allow installation of wide M&H slicks.

    Better angle shots

So two cool news snippets from today. First off I got a call from a freight company confirming delivery tomorrow of a crate from Ford Racing! Woohoo! AND not long after that, the guy that picks up cars for me called saying he had a cancellation on another run and would be picking up the Cobra TOMORROW!

Datsun used it on the 1000 (I believe it was called the Sunny in some countries). My sister had one and it drove okay, a little understeer on corners IIRC but basically worked okay for an economical little tin box.

Two interesting build threads going on this year. Who will get done first? Deuced Up Cobra or Squirrel and the Barracuda? Then the big question.. Will they ever see each other for a race?

Oh I am sure we will see each other, as far as racing...if we were to do it? I promise to do my level best to pay great and quick attention to detail and describe to any HAMBers that do not get to see the "Almost Funny Cuda" in person, exactly what the rear of the car looks like. It is the least I can do for the loyal HAMB membership. LOL

I took the day off yesterday to do a college tour with my daughter. Dropped by the shop this morning and my office was buried in boxes. Fat Man front end is here minus the cross member and the shocks which are coming straight from QA-1.

I spent the entire day cleaning the garage getting ready for the Cobra Body and the build. I put the body lift cross members on the top of the rack. If you followed the Austin build you might remember we used this system to remove the body.

Here is the plan, hang the body from the cross member sysyems and build the chassis on a jig I am building on the rack. When ever we want we can raise the lift with chassis on it up under the body. We can easily check fitment and take measurements for mounting etc, then lower the chassis and continue building.

Thanks Enloe but I am thinking maybe something from Plexus! LOL 4882.jpg
I have been doing a bit of homework and this seems to be the bonding agent of choice!

Randall I work a fair amount with fiberglass and am anxious to hear how Plexus works. Keep in mind the set time as they may offer a quick, medium and slow set adhesive. It would be great if you could run a test prior but sometimes once you open the tube it has a shelf life that can start to run.

Recently I used some Evercoat with poor results. It did not hold and I had to remove the panels and remove all the adhesive. The tube was probably old and not necessarily the fault of the manufacturer.

Hopefully next summer I will find some time to hang a front clip on a project and am in need of a slower set adhesive and I am up in the air about which way to go. Let us know the pros and cons of what you experience.

Good luck and I am anxious to see your build on the track. Good to have a cool build that is a tad different than the gassers (which are great by the way). My first trips to the drag strip allowed me to see the Modified sports run which was a great era. Hopefully your build will add to the recreation of the era.

I know it is too early to know but will this car be at the Meltdown?

Affirmative, they have a great line of products, especially for bonding dissimilar materials.
I plan to use this as my body mfg suggested a methacrylate adhesive for glassing the aluminum trunk floor riser in my fiberglass roadster.

They have the widest range of products I've found.

    BTW Randal
Here is a chassis component supplier you might look into for all your misc. gussets, mounts, tabs, brackets, etc.
They have quite a large selection of specialty racing components, neat stuff.
