I posted the original picture(s) years ago, here, on the hamb. The skinny guy is a good buddy (not EJ Potter) and thats his car. Years later the Rodders' Journal ran a contest for the best pic of somebody reading the RJ, a free subscription was the prize. My buddy subscribes to the RJ and was scrolling thru the entrants, saw the photchopped one of him and flipped! That pic did win the contest. He contacted RJ and told them the story, the Rodders Journal was intrigued by the story and in issue #60 they did an acknowledgement article about the origin of the picture and I think they mentioned the HAMB as well.
Here's the original pic and the same boy today with one of his hot rods.

It would be nice to put a 'period' on it: perhaps the HAMB'r that did the photochop would come forward, my buddy would like to thank him.

Is this still a V8? A banger now? Where are the headers? Gary[/QUOTE]

Gary, they're just your basic, 2x2" square, equal length headers, just a little short.;)
I tried to find opposite side photos, no luck but I'm sure it has the same on the other bank.
I can imagine when he upgraded with that injected engine he held on much tighter!

Non combat wheels = (loosely) base use only. Note the header on the windshield frame as well.

    Morning,

Wallingford neighborhood of Seattle, now and then. I'm guessing that cab over service truck is Seattle City Light.

  12. I had not seen that yesterday. Thank you for the update. FYI her first movie was "The Big Sleep" with Humphrey Bogart, she was the clerk in the bookstore that Bogie used to spy on Geiger the blackmailer.

Just read a great book on the history of Holden and how the first Holden evolved from the 1939 Opel.
Lots of politics involved with GM also and the local management. The car was basically designed in USA but modified to cope with Australian road conditions. The book is called It Happened In a Holden by Mick Fanning and Paddy O'Reilly. (Checked on Google as I have lent the book will amend if not correct)

    Hello,
That nice, scenic, historic photo shows a cool convertible with unusual fins sticking up on the surfboards. This must have been in late 1963- early 64. The reversed fins were just coming on the market and were becoming popular in the USA. The leading edge was already somewhat sharp, but with this "reversed fin" design, would cut through kelp easier all along the coastal areas. It also made turning those heavy longboards better and stay more stable in bigger surf.

This design was on my last huge "Gordie" longboard that resided in my old Long Beach, CA backyard garage until 2006. (what a bidding war it was until I sold it to a surf shop in Laguna Beach)

The technology used in mounting the surfboard racks goes back to the late 50's in So Cal as plenty of sports cars, open roadsters and convertibles needed to carry these giant 10ft+ surfboard(s) to the beach in smaller size vehicles. So, an extra bumper rack and supports usually did the job.

Our first try in 1959, was a similar design on the bumper of an open convertible. Contrary to some photos, not all longboards fit in the back seating area of convertibles, if there was a back seat area in cars.
