H used to come to a LAR weekly mtg. when his roadster was being built, I was sec. at that time, remember logging his name as a guest occasionally.

Built the Revell model of the "Orange Crate" back when it came out, I was about 12 at the time, maybe 62-63. Always liked that car.

The great Gus Schrader with one of the very early dirt track sponsorships. A man named Sewell Avery was the president of Montgomery Ward and realizing that most of his catalog business came from rural areas was quick to make deals with dirt track drivers from coast to coast. For the drivers it was a great deal because they got free tires as well as getting extra cash for making personal appearances at local Ward's catalog offices when they raced at county fairgrounds across the country. In those days the very same Ward's Riverside tires that drivers like Gus raced on were the very same ones that you could buy for your farm truck or the family car. Big cars raced on the very same tires that people used on their personal vehicles and advertising of the day made sure that you knew it.

 

Didn't that car have one of the 318 CI tall block Offies in it ?

The "Australian 6", these were built from 1920 till 1926 about 500 were produced. This lot is on it's way to New Zealand.

Yep our trade school used to get a lot of one year old demo cut aways and other displayed items when the newer stuff came out. We even had a brand new 409 all factory cut away and highlighted with NICE paint and chrome valve springs and keepers mounted on a stand with an electric motor to make the crank and other parts move.
