Rootie, is that Bobby Unser in the 31? Who is the sprint driver? thx

 

Rootie, looks like Thompson, CT. but I can't make out who ?

 

The first attached photo appears to be Bobby Unser in the Chalik Epperly laydown in 1963 at Indianapolis. Unser took his test in this car before jumping to the Granatelli Novi. Bob Harkey then got the ride and turned 150 MPH laps in Practice before hitting the wall in the car. And it looks like Norm Hall in the #61 Federal Engineering car behind Unser.

The second photo shows Charlie Masters at Terre Haute probably around 1968. The car owner was E.T. Morse who ran the Kentucky distillery that produced the Ezra Brooks branded bourbon. I'm not 100% sure but this may be the ex-K.E.Y. sprint car that was driven by Bobby Unser and several others.

 

I have had a few inquiries about this ring. It was Joe Sostilio's from Jimmy Bryans 1958 Indy win. Joe was a close friend of Jimmy's and was on the pit crew that year. All the crew received these rings. The 90 represents 90 seconds for the 3 pit stops combined, a new record set that year for the fastest stops. Joe proudly wore this ring the rest of his life and when he passed away he willed it to me, A great honor . It is inscribed on the inside " to Joe from Jimmy and George ". Joe was with Jimmy when he was killed at Langhorne and flew back to Arizona with his body and of course was a pall bearer. Joe told me that Jimmy's death affected him more than any of the others during his own great car career.

 

Actually it's Jaxsonville Fla. circa 1947 but I don't know the car or driver.

 

That is the old KEY car. Looks like a IMCA show what with the nose hoop. I have other shots of it without at USAC races.

My guess is someone didn't want to shorten the steering shaft.

Ok, I'll come clean...back in 1983 I bought a new Chevette..
So the good news is...in 1985 I traded it in for a new Z-28 Camaro.
