    Hey Gary,

Welcome back…nice capture of the original Disneyland monorail. That was certainly an eye opener, as a little kid, when it was available for all to see and ride. Even when walking around the Disneyland grounds, upon seeing the monorail whizzing past just made it great. We were used to seeing the regular trains come by our junior high school as the main tracks to the LA/Long Beach Harbor were right there at the end of the baseball field.

It was so cool to be able to sit in real seats and watch everything whiz by the window. It was my first real train ride. (not counting the “red cars,” now called the BlueLine, from Long Beach to Los Angeles back in the old days)

There have been many changes to this monorail system at Disneyland. Progress…But, for the young kids of today, that is their form of train transportation. The thrill of seeing something whizzing by is still there after seeing the modern version.

    Meet the Fleet

"The Disneyland Monorail is comprised of the Red, Blue and Orange Mark VII trains. Computer monitored, the fleet is operated and controlled at a speed of approximately 30 mph by onboard pilots. And because the Disneyland Monorail uses a 600-volt DC power source, the trains do not emit exhaust or pollutants.

    Streaks of Light
Thanks to an innovative painting technique developed by the Disney Imagineers, the surface of the trains shimmers with visual electricity. Watch closely and you’ll see the colors shift with a simple brush of light—from red to crimson, from blue to teal and from orange to a golden sunburst. It's not just a stroke of technological innovation; it's a work of art!

    A Blast from the Past

The Disneyland Monorail was the first transportation system of its kind in America. It was based on a system built by the ALWEG company and discovered by Walt Disney while traveling in Germany. The monorail first appeared in Disneyland Park in 1959 with its "Googie" architecture, a space age look that was enormously popular during the 1950s.

The current version of the Disneyland Monorail combines the sleek styling of the 1959 classic with new technologies and subtle design changes, bringing a retro-futuristic look and contemporary feel to the timeless Disneyland icon.

The Disneyland Monorail celebrated its 50th anniversary on June 14, 2009."

I'd guess dirty finger nails but he doesn't look like much of a labor type guy to me.

  9. Bob Rounthwaite normally raced this coupe at the lakes, but here he is trying out Saugus. Tom ran a fuel flathead in the coupe, he is at left, looks like friend Tom "Acmo" McLaughlin is at right...both members of the Glendale Coupe and Roadster Club. -David Sorenson

Judging by the condition of the door, looks like she may have driven herself to the church!!
