A well thought out good looking build, very nice indeed.
A silly question followed by a sillier question........I am not familiar with that engine, what is it?
The angle you took of the steering wheel makes it look awful high in the cab....is it?

Loren who is going to cover the roof wants me to bring the car not just the wood roof. So it was time for a spin!

Frankie47, it is a 472 Cad. Believe me you are not the first to ask. It's kinda fun at cruise inns and watch a couple guys look at it walk away and come back with a couple more buddy's and stare at it some more. Most guess its a Ford. As far as the column yes its a little high. I'm 6ft. and to raise it to get my foot on the brake pedal with the steering wheel on.

Thank you, I'm a 440 guy so seeing a tilted dizzy on the other side was strange to me.....lol.

  7. Wow, I REALLY appreciate how clean your work is! And I really like the B pillar delete and your understated third tail light. You've definitely made a really nice driving machine there and I hope you enjoy it whenever you can!

Thanks for the kind words. You are the first to mention the B pillar. I really figured I would go down in flames for the move . The A&B pillars were both a mess and beyond my talents. I also gave serious thought to cutting the top off and doing a coupster. The third brake light was also a argument. So I grabbed a beer (GRAIN BELT) and stood in front of the mirror and argued with myself till the beer was gone and what you see is the results.

The "hardtop" look really works. My only concern would be getting caught in rain with no side windows now. maybe some snap on sides?
Car came out great. especially dig the blue/white combo (almost matches my white/blue combo on my truck

I've been caught in only one good storm, and I was surprised that it really wasn't bad. I have thought about some curtains but for now its my hardtop roadster.

  11. A third light is a must on a driver these days IMO. A lot of drivers on the road did not grow up in a time that cars without the third light were common. Of course if they're playing with their phones, it's a moot point (trust me on that one). Yours is nice, clean, discrete, and covers your ass!

The B pillar delete along with the paint scheme give it a strong custom look and feel. I like it.

    I like this idea.

This car, one of my favorites, has them:

Got the car back from Loren with the roof covered. I think he did a great job.

Went down to the truck stop and fueled it up then ran it across the scale
    IMG_6447.jpg
Came out a little heavier than I thought. But not enormously heavy. This was full of fuel and me in it. Take my 275/280 out of it and it gets better. Any way I think the balance came out pretty good. The front spring had seven leaves in it, but I removed 2,3, and 5 and it seems pretty good. Kind of thinking I might put #5 back in just to see. In the back I'm using QA1,s with 14in spring. I started with a 175lb spring and that felt a tick too soft. Went to 225lb springs and a #4 setting on the shock and that hit the spot. Wheel base ended up at 116. 472 Cad, TH400 tranny, 9in with 300 gears and a Truetrac. Then the wife surprised me with a cover she made!

Well that pretty well covers it sports fans!:D 100_0397.JPG

The handsome mug on the right is me and the pretty woman on the left is my wife and helper. She even powered my bead roller. She said next time it better have a steering wheel instead of this "goddam crank". Anyway there you have it folks, fame me or flame me it's what I did and what I have. We both have big grins on a faces when we're cruising.

You built the car that i have building in my mind. Right down to the color.
    Except for the engine.
    Good job on the build.
What year is the caddy motor?
Would you leave the package tray in if you had to do it over? Would This would give you more room?

Patmanta thank you for the support! I also am a fan of the third brake light but you always get the "look" aspect of it. That is one good looking Phaeton and I like the look of the curtains.

Donnie thank you for the compliments! The motor is from a 1968 caddy. If I had to do it all over again I would build or buy a smaller fuel tank that takes up less room instead of using what I had. That way I would of had more trunk room and probably would have eliminated the package tray and moved the seats back even more. Its kind of funny, I always felt I had tons of room till I put the roof on. Then it was WTF.

The top of my seat is more and less against the back in my coupe.
So i have no space for a tray there. And for gastank i problaby have
to make my own becouse i want it behind my seat.
So to maximaze the space for my tank i problaby make a slanted
rear firewall that follow the backrest of my seat.
Hopefully this will give some space in the trunk for smaller stuff.
