The Serial Number of your South Bend is stamped into the bed under the Tail Stock. 20 Years ago South Bend still had parts and was able to tell you where the lathe was delivered first. Mine was shipped to Frank Kurtis Race Cars. Made sense as I bought it from the estate of a former Kurtis employee.

OK Rocky, I know I may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but I'm looking at the shape of your frame, and I'm imagining where the motor would be located, and I simply can't see how "the front of the motor being 3/4" closer to the right frame rail then the back of the engine.." isn't correct. I would think the front of the motor is closer to the left frame then the rear of the motor is as well, since the frame is wider at the back then it is at the front. I can't wait to see how you "fix" this.

I too am having a difficult time moving forward with my current project. I'm too cheap to buy a wiring harness, so I'm just cleaning up an old unmolested harness from a donor truck. Well, it was unmolested before I started...Gene

Header idea? god knows those pipes are a fair assessment of my train of though during a project.

If those header primaries are equal length then all is good.

 

I meant the center line of the motor was 3/4" off center of the frame up front of the engine compared to the rear of the engine. It's fixed now.

 

Well thought out! That thing this guy tried to disguise as a horn, is not! It is an airpump to manually cool the header tubes in a well calculated spot. The hot expanded gases cool down on this cooled spot and shrink , they build vacuum in the headers and therefore help scavange spent gases from the engine...what a genius !!! Probably worth a 50 hp per side.

Ask Carl Sagan, he ´ll probably nod and agree.

We heard that before

 

I had one of those things, which made it not so exciting to go out in the shop and work on my T'bird. Then I got rid of the thing and built several other things, and still didn't work on the 'bird. Now, 12 years later, the bird still isn't done, and I got another thing. Now I'm close to retiring, so I can finally finish the 'bird. Or, I could work on the '63 Riviera, so that's another thing. Hit it with a hammer.

 

I have one of those things now also , I while ago I had a few of those things . You will love the FXR , it handles like a dream and it’s a Shovelhead ! They are all but gone anymore , strange , but I guess most new over seas to a new home . Just be safe , they are a bit more dangerous that the other project . Good Luck

I think the problem may be that you don't have a wide enough variety of hammers. You gotta spice it up that 'bird with more hammers when possible.

I learned something about ugly motorcycles in college. Just turn out the lights and ride it. Everybody goes home happy. No wait, that wasn’t motorcycles at all.

A "have one of those" story....

At the time in my life I was just about finished with a divorce.
I rode my bike up to the local watering hole and the best rib joint in town. While I was getting the bike parked 2 couples were walking over to check it out. The one guys says " wow that's a really nice Harley. It Sounds awesome what is it?" I said "it's a 98 inch shovel head." So then he say to me "I could have had one of those (pointing to my bike) but instead I got one of these" as he's putting his arm around his very beautiful new bride. She was smoking hot too!!

I said "you know what ?? , I had ONE of those, ( pointing to his woman) now one of those (pointing to my Bike) and now I have as many of those (point again to his woman) as I want. Funny how that works out ain't it? "

 

Exactly! Sometimes you have a bender and a welder but not a cutter I suppose
