Hi all, for the life of me, I can’t figure out how to remove the wires nd replace them for detailing. What am I missing???? Thanks to all in advance
Wiggle them and pull at the same time, by hand where the spark plug meets at the wire by the engine. If that don't do it, get a needle nose vice grips and pull on them being careful not to grip to hard but just enough not to damage anything. Pull like you mean it, lol Sent from my SM-J727T1 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app

When you finally get 'em off, put a little di-electric grease in the boot when you replace them. Next time it will be a piece of cake.
What kind of engine ? What kind of wires? Some aftermarket wires for Chevy / GMC products will vulcanize themselves to the plug and need a twist to come off A little die electric grease helps under the boot
I still managed to destroy a plug boot on a OT GM even with one of those types of plug wire tools and it was a good quality tool. The plug wires were OEM too. There's not much room between the headers and heat shields on a SBC to get anything to get those boots off the plugs if they're stuck.
That tool doesn't have ahold of the part that's stuck. It's all the way out to the end of the boot...where the heat is. They make a tool that kinda works. I had one when I was doing tune ups on 454 trucks. It's shaped like a two fingered fork at a 90 that goes all the way down in to where it is stuck. Still , I had to shave it down so it could clear the heat shield collars. Still have to pull like hell.
These work and work as Mark Yak suggested in post 18. I can't remember where I found them but snagged the when I saw them. Looking at the handle they are Matco SP 60R
You can use leverage off another tool like a long screwdriver with a forceful pull Sent from my SM-J727T1 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
X 2 on post #19. They pull from under the stuck on rubber boot to take a lot of stress off the crimped terminal. Very nice tool to have especially if you're planning to reuse the plug wires.
I picked up this simple puller years ago... Great for those boots that are really stuck on and you cannot twist free. Make sure to wear heavy gloves and elbow guards.
Ever yanked a stubborn wire loose and when your arm shoots back you hit your elbow funnybone on some other part of the enginebay .
I finally tuned up my late model dodge 4/4 pick up truck. Must of been at leasts 6 years ago. I broke every spark wire trying to get them off .The dist. Cap was a bitch too. Bruce.
I am on my iPhone right now and sometimes I can see a posters signature line and at other times they are not visible. That being said the first time I saw the original post I noticed his signature line mentioned a ‘37 Lincoln, in fact he owns four Lincolns. I believe he needs info on removing the plug wires from his flathead Lincoln, but I’m no help, never owned or worked on an early flathead distributor.
