Hot Rods Nice try on a scam.....

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Irish Mike, Mar 6, 2018.

  1. Been looking at a 46 woody online, add said it was local to me, sent an email said I wanted to look at it and received this reply.....HaHa....who talks like this? No one I hang with......I never even heard of this kind of third party sale. Nice try though....I'd be mad on the situation too......
    Hello Mike,

Would you like to see more pictures?
The reason why I'm selling it is a divorced settlement. I must share everything with my ex. I am very mad on this situation but I don't have any options. Priced for a quick sale. Because my time is very important and and I'm dedicated to my career a third party company is the best choice for us. They will protect both of us in this transaction. I know it's been advertised in a few areas but the car is in Spokane, WA ready to go. I arranged for the sale before I left the country so my presence won't be necessary. They are supervising the entire sale process from payment, shipping with a inspection period (7 days), title(clear) transfer service or/and (if needed) returns and refunding. As for the payment we can start a transaction through the shipping company where I'm already registered. You will have to register too on their website, then you have to contact me to start the transaction. If you are serious about buying the car, I will ship it anywhere with no extra cost(I will use a coupon for that).
If you want to move forward please contact me back so we can get the ball rolling. Don't let this beauty go away !!

We were at Los Banos show a few years back, some young guy (21 or so) had a real nice (but 'weathered') '29 roadster pickup. Jag rear, lots of greening chrome...I recognized the car.
The kid said he had bought it under strange circumstances:
Older guy said to come over and see it at night, after midnight. Car was in San Jose, so the kid and his Dad went to look. The seller turned on the garage light, brought them in the side door, guy was wearing an Ivy League (golfer's) cap, pulled way down, and a pair of shades! He said he had the pink slip, the car ran. Cash only, quick sale. When? Now!
The kid and his Dad went back home, got the cash (and a 9mm pistol) and returned.
Seller had the key, started the roadster, and while it idled signed the pink. Showed them his calif drivers license, took the cash. ($6K! Cheap for this car!)
They drove it away, turned the corner, and loaded it onto the car trailer half a mile away...
There had been a divorce, and papers weren't signed...Risky business. Never heard any more...Think it was $6K, but could have been less. Long time ago.

  15. The wierd thing is he used the name /email of "Trevor C. Walker". The add stated the car was in Orange, a city a few miles away. I Zaba searched the name and there is a guy who lives in Orange with that name. Also, in one reply, he said the car has never been in a flood? We haven't had a flood in SoCal since the '30's.
This had scam all over it.....I'll find the site it was on....found it......Trovit.com or Hot Classic Deals....That just sounds greasy....

  16. Now if it was a REAL Nigerian princess, you may just get a woody.... Otherwise, this stinks like yesterday's Limburger...

I wouldn't say it is a "new" try as the priced too good to be true vehicles show up quite often and they usually aren't the ''getting rid of it for cash so the soon to be Ex doesn't get half" deals although I have hear of a few of those.
I sent a reply back to one a while back telling them that I could fly out the next day and pick the car up and got an answer back that it had to be shipped and wasn't available for local pickup.

  21. Just heard back from my interest in a 34 woody for 15K. Here's what he wrote.....
    Hello,

The car is still for sale at $15,000. Mileage is 5,035.
The car is being sold as described, no mechanical issues, clear title. Car is a strong runner and a daily driver. This beautiful example has been meticulously maintained, covered and garaged in a climate controlled environment. I am working overseas with Chesapeake Energy and my contract ends in July 2018.
If you want to find out more details about how we can close up this deal contact me.

I replied " Where is the car located. This is good timing because I just received a large inheritance."

Coupons for shipping? Did he get them in one of those weekly classified shopper papers? From your last post, it sounds like you plan to mess with him some. This could be entertaining.

  29. AHAHAHAHAHA, I seen the same type of deal a few years ago when I was looking for a '35/'36 pickup. Found one in Florida for cheap, I emailed, the car was really in Washington state and a shipping company would deal with the transaction (and shipping of course) because he was out of the country. Sent a few more emails, to bait....then when I said "great!, I have a cousin in that area to look at it for me" the emails stopped :p.

It was on oodle or Claz or something like that.
