Wow, never underestimate how bad old varnished gas can smell. Lord have mercy lol. Gonna let it air out outside for a while until I figure out how to clean it.
The firewall brace is a great idea, those pedals take a lot of force Sent from my SM-J320V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Yeah I’m going to lean towards over built. Figure being able to build it on the bench and then bolt it into the car gives me a lot more opportunity for what I can do up under there.
You need one of my special air unfressioners. With just a few days of use in a closed car other odors will no longer bother you.
Funny I am not a chemist so the actual makeup of gasoline is lost on me but I have always wondered where the varnish came from.
Some dawn dish soap and a garden hose got a surprising amount of the sludge out. I’m letting it soak a while and we’ll see how much of the stink is gone. Thinking I’ll take it to the car wash this weekend and use the high heat, high pressure hose and blast it some more. Doesn’t have to to clean enough to paint just clean enough to bring in doors and play with
LOL I knew a guy that tried to give a skunk a bath so he could bring it home. I guess it was older than he thought and his wife wouldn't let neither one of them in the house. You're getting there, makes you wish for a detached garage don't it. LOL
Porkenreaner, We also offer a larger size that will give coverage to an entire house. Let me know how many you need. Live shipment can be arranged.
A trip to the car wash for some steaming hot high pressure blasting and soap for the tank clean enough to bring back inside Pretty clean! pulled the intake off the Nash manifold set and pulled the stock manifolds off the Chevy for a little look see. The end ports space out closer than this but this is the position that lets me hang it on the motor for a photo. I think I’m going to like the tube version. @Austin kays brought me some mega strong magnets to help mock things up and I stuck them on the pedals to see if they’d hold to the fire wall. Sorta. Pedals aren’t very magnetic apparently because it barely holds though this magnet could smash you finger if you got it between the magnet and an anvil Well. That’s where we are
Maybe I missed it, but werent you going to use the 2 old Ford master cylinder type Ansen pedal setup? That one looks like it takes a modern slave and modern brake cylinders. Is that an Ansen? Ive never seen one with those cylinders.
Tim...I found these little lights online. I think they're for some kinda Jap bike but I forget which brand.
@Rocky yeah I thought of those when I saw this one on the shelf. Was thinking about using them if I couldn’t find another to match the one I found. @Corn Fed this is a speedway knock off of the ansen. The spacing is enough to allow two 40-8 ford masters to fit. The center hole on one side needs inlarged and you need to add a provision for one bolt hole that lines up off the “box” I’ve got a couple ideas of how I’ll do that.
@Corn Fed I forgot to add that I think the standard ansen that’s set up for the Chevy master is to narrow to run the two ford masters. That’s one of the reasons I’m using this one.
Today’s “mental math” trying to land on a way to brace everything with out it getting in the way of everything else Pedals land about here, still need to make sure that clutch master clears the hood as @Tman pointed out to me. Right now the only thing I’m set on is welding a 1/4 plate square to the inside of the firewall with all the holes I need drilled and tapped. That way the pedals just bolt right on and the masters bolt right on from the other side. I was thinking I’d run a 1x1 brace from the bottom of that plate to the steering column support and then a 1x1 brace from the top to the dash rail. That brings me to two thoughts. 1: if I brace it that heavy I need to have my switch positions and gauge positions figured out and mocked up so I don’t run into interference later. If something doesn’t fit, or doesn’t have a provision to work easily the only one who’s at fault is me. 2: @TexasSpeed mentions a similar plating the firewall minus the added 1x1 braces and I got to thinking that my dash would already offer mote support for the steering column than a 32 dash and people hang them from those all the time? If plating the firewall would be enough to keep the flex out I wouldn’t have to work 10 steps ahead and have the gauges figured out to add the bracing. I tend to shoot for overkill because I don’t want to have to go back and make it stronger later but sometimes over kill is waaaaay overkill and not needed. Thoughts on bracing the pedals on the firewall?
LOL I don't need rats, my crazy neighbor lady has cats. She is not very responsible and lets them run about, the males have been pissing all over everything. I have got to get a .22. @Tim your peddle setup is slick. I got some Nash masters that @Austin kays said I could have but I am leaning toward a pair of old Jelly jars. The Nash Masters are pretty damned cool though.
@porknbeaner I know I gave them to him lol. Kinda cool how they are set up stagard like that! Speedway carries masters that same size so I’d assume rebuild parts shouldn’t be hard to find if you wanted to use those. What to do you? Plated firewall enough or add braces to dash/dashrail?
Mine had braces built off the cowl hoop. I would brace it, they are gong to be getting some pressure when the brakes or clutch is applied.
Tim the 153 uses the same rod the same bearings as a 283 and early 327. Also the same size and number of main bearings. The 181 has the same rod bearings as a 350. So basically the crank has the same main bering surface as an early small block. The rod bearings are doing the same thing as a small block. The rods are mechanically the same possibly a little stronger because they are a tiny bit wider. It should take at least as much boost as a small block. Use good pistons. The 151 crank may be a little stronger because of the shorter stroke but I saw on a website that someone was pulling well over 300hp from a turboed Iron Duke.
I have a couple of McCullochs and I thought about using one on my roadster but they are pretty big compared to the engine.
True, figure mines got a late 60’s jumbo sized gm alternator on it now where I’d place it. If I squint and pretend it’s a super charger it looks like it’ll work to me lol
@Six Ball for shits and grinds throw a tape on one of them I’m curious how much bigger it is than this alternator
