Do you guys remember this? Did you actually buy one? Did it work? This add was in the back of practically every car magizine for years but I never knew anyone who bought one. They must have sold some........but to Who? Sent from my iPad using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I don't think you will get many responses if any at all. If I had fallen for that years ago, I know that I wouldn't admit it. It would be interesting to hear the explanation of how they thought it would work. Far stretch of the imagination there !
Electro plating worked just not as described and dang, I would have hated to do a bumper with it. Back when I sold cars it was a bit of a fad for a short time to do badges in gold and then charge an add on. It looked great when done but it quickly faded away.
In 1958 Rod & Custom tried the product, using a grille part from the Dream Truck for the test. Results were good enough to recommend it for small parts ...
I ran into a guy at a car show a few years ago that was doing this in gold for people. It looked like it took forever to get it to turn gold and it was very thin and transparent looking. Probably lasted until it was cleaned and then rubbed off.
My wife claims that I look at all old cars thru rose colored glasses. Maybe I should get a pair of these specs. I would probably stick around for her hen parties!
i did buy the gadget that lets you throw your voice. remember the ad where a workman is carrying a large box and the kid has him convinced someone is inside it?
When we were teenagers, a buddy of mine sent away $20.00 for something guaranteed to double the size of his willie. I asked him the other day if he still had that magnifying glass.
My dad bought a plating kit, I don't know exactly from where but -probably- JC Whitney. He had fun with it, but it seemed to burn the brushes in the kit up pretty quickly and Dad didn't have a lot of cash to spare for buying new ones. He also bought a resin casting kit around the same time, got interested in fiberglass work. He did that for a long time and went from cars over to boats.
Yeah, but he told me that the girls always got a funny look on their faces when he brought that magnifying glass to bed with him. Lol
I bugged my Mom until she ordered me the Sea Monkeys. Within a couple days of getting them I had hundreds of them. I was pretty disappointed to find out that they were just Brine shrimp. My aquarium full of Guppies loved them. I found out that I could get 100X more at the pet shop for about the same price. As stupid as it sounds, I bet the person/company that came up with the idea made a lot of $$$$.
^What u see What u get. No, that isn't me but I'm betting your seeing the exact moment these kids stopped believing in Santa Claus.
on the Velocity Channel one show called "Restoration Garage" (Guild of Automotive Restorers) in a episode one of the mechanics did chromium electroplating on some small parts - forget doing your bumpers, etc
