  1. The only answer to these two good points is because the "Boss" get's to interpret the Rules any way he wants to. It's a true Vintage pre 1965 Old School way of running a business and I agree with it. Carry on fellas.

  2. Hmmmm. I guess a drag jag from the 60s that raced in the sports car cl*** is off topic? I stand corrected.

    Anyway, get that ‘40!

  3. I still haven't seen the Jag.
There were a few Borgwards running around the Washington Valley when I was in high school, a kid in school had one banger with 4 on the column.

Yes!, he is amazing. I can only dream of getting to that age and being as good and friendly of a person.
    Bye Bye Jag, Lol

Anyway!! that 40 is accessible but at what reasonable price is the question. I can probably pull out $4 to $6 comfortably, but $7 to $10 is a stretch for me everyone's pockets budget is different. im not the guy with an extra $20 to splurge on it. when it may take an extra $3 to $5 to get it reliable or drivable. so the question is who may be the one with $11 to $19 in between??? would most likely be the lucky one to have the opportunity of owning it. moral dilemma. because I also hate watching them sit neglected.
    Thanks, Ed

Around here a rust free and straight 40 coupe like that would be $15,000 at the very least.

^^^^ I agree--that 40 is mid teens-maybe more. I would be after it no doubt but I have a soft spot for 40's so my opinion may be a little biased. Having done many 40's I have paid more than mentioned here for project 40's but they were rust free and all there but not running. Maybe not as good as the one shown here. Paid $18 for a roller a few yrs ago with "all there and needing it all"-covered in bird poop etc at a swap meet-was the nicest body of all I have done when we got into it-everything fit and no rust-wife says it may be the best one we ever did-she talked me into buying it after she looked it over in great detail-lives in LA now.

Yes, he needed to clean up a bit. So I bought a 55 cushman truckster frame from him and a 60's jim Dandy whirlwind ride from him and a few odds and ends.

I spoke with him a bit on tuesday. And he doesn' seem to attached to it I offered him a fair amount and told him my brothers and I would get it running together and put it back on the road. He says just maybe he'l think about it at a fair blue book value. That he had printed out an idea of what he thought it' is worth from a collector car buyers guide and it seems around 7 or 8 is what he may be comfortable with. So I'll give it a couple days and try again. Wish me luck.
It's a p***ion we all have in common. but for some of us a little monitory value can boost our quality of living or enjoyment.
    Thanks, Ed

  13. Hope you can get the '40 coupe. You could see if you can talk him into throwing that little Standard 10 wagon into the deal. Would make a nice sleeper with MGB running gear.

I hope you can get it.
I had completely written off aquisition of an early ford until my avatar fell in my lap due to a buddy's divorce.
7k and I'm pretty satisfied. It's the most I've ever paid for a car.

7-8K for that 40 is an absolute steal! That's a deal you should jump on today, even if you have to borrow a few grand to raise the $$$!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What's under the hood of the 40!? I noticed it has www's and later model hub caps on the rear. Black '63 plates. Maybe it was a hopped up machine in the mid-late 60's? Could have a hot OHV V-8 ( BOP, Nailhead, Hemi) hiding in there.

Same goes for the RPU-what engine?

I'd try to bundle purchase the 40 and RPU (for your Brother) together. Maybe bake in a pile of old parts; engines, axles, wheels and any other old goodies around to sweeten the deal.

It's good that you've established a working relationship with him by buying a couple of things., and that your intention is to get the 40 running. This lets him know your intentions are good, you're not a flipper and the car will live again.

Sounds like a cool guy. It cracks me up that at 95, he "might not be ready to sell". May we all be so lucky! I love it.
On that note, being 95, you have to keep a close eye on the stash. Does he have relatives and what are their intentions when he p***es?

For the sake of the cars and the Gentleman's pride and joy, I'd hate to see the stuff be unceremoniously s****ped if the family auctions off the house/property as it sits to a house flipper/developer and they call in a s****per to clean up the property.

Nice story how that little voice in you head said to follow up with the guy. All of those cars seem really good shape. Hope you can get the 40, and maybe help the old guy get rid of the others as well!
