Notice the big oil stains at every parking space. Back then , a drip wasn't considered an "oil leak" like it is today - if it didn't leave a puddle, it wasn't leaking!

  4. Yep, I remember when the dinner show anywhere in Las Vegas was a bargain, before the mob sold out to the corporations. Dinner and a show for $20. All top name talent.

    Oh for a time machine!
Knowing what I know now, I'd have 302's and 327's stacked to the ceiling.

Finally got around to going through a shoebox full of slides from an estate; these are mostly from San Diego. All previously unpublished, so if you see 'em elsewhere, they were here on the H.A.M.B. first! :D

I think the real point may be... rich guy eating burger doesn't give a flip about the other guy's car. Worse, any possible damage he may be doing to the paint never even enters his mind. Car wise, he has no clue - regardless of his politics or unfortunate demise. Gary

    Hey CBC,
The photo of Santa Claus Lane in Carpenteria, CA was posted by Gary Reynolds in December of 2017.
    upload_2018-3-31_4-38-27.png
There was a follow up on Dec 19th that explained what and where it was located. So, sorry, it is not all new on the HAMB.

Sometimes there are some errors that need to be corrected. Errors pop up because of a zillion photos posted on this thread without too many explanations. Information makes us all more aware of location and action in the photos of our history. You have some great posts on the high school yearbooks including some high school action. That is very cool. Thanks...

1960's photo of Santa Claus Lane in Carpenteria, South of Santa Barbara

    Hey Guys,

Nice photo capture. Times have changed since way back then. When we drove by this place during the most recent Thanksgiving week, it was a surprise NOT to see this giant Santa Claus facing the freeway. We used to stop here for any kind of snacks to and from the surf spots in the area, throughout the years.

It was a popular roadside attraction all season long and during the holidays, the place was packed for obvious reasons. In the large photo posted above, it looks like a 1960 Chevy station wagon and a 1962 Rambler sedan. Also, in the lower photo, there are a bunch of 50's and 60's cars and wagons.

As a matter of fact, if you can get onto the next door Padaro Lane property, there is a clean break that is one of the best empty surf spots in So Cal. But, you have to know which alley to go through to the ocean. The break is protected from public sight from the roadway or freeway and the local area is a private property enclave. One of our recent USA Presidents stayed in a giant house at the Padaro Lane homes. (causing a temporary no surfing area) He liked the Santa Claus Lane area, too.

(ASIDE: the Padaro Lane surf spot was the last place my brother and I surfed together before he left the earth. There were glassy, long lines, hanging 10, type of waves on certain swells, etc. Memories last forever. )

Our son used to love seeing this giant guy looking at all of the freeway traffic for many years. The Santa Claus Lane area attraction made the drivers and families stop for a break on the long drive between major cities on the coast. That big statue was a giant calling card. We stopped many times for snacks and a fabulous view of the ocean.

So, what happened to the Santa Claus statue? It is in Oxnard, CA, just down the highway a few more miles, south.

Looks like '60 Ford he has his feet on, so at least they're on trim, not paint. But he still might not have a clue.

    C'mon you guys!!!!
This site is for cars, and ChrisbCritter's picture might have the same hotel in the background but that's NOT RELEVANT (me shouting!!) As they say, it's the cars, stupid. (Or in this case, the truck parked outside!)
Lots of pictures have the same buildings in the background, but no-one hits on them.
Please be kind to us fellow HAMBers'
    Thanks.
    Keep posting.

  15. MY point is that it's HIS CAR, HIS CAR, part of the entourage . He's traveling with a bunch of other people, his staff, reporters, secret service, it's not just some poor guys car! He has his feet up on one of HIS OWN CARS!
Jeeeez, has zero to do with politics! Read up on the pic (Google search ) and the circumstances of what was going on!

  16. Chrisbcritter THANKS for new pictures!
There are way too many repeats again. Yes, it happens, but some are repeated within days of each other.
Not the end of the world, but generally if you Google and a pic is on page one, it's been posted 97 times.
It's great to see original old stuff, thanks to Fritzie too!

 Sorry guys, I should have been clearer - should have specified that these particular slides haven't been posted here before, even though the locations have shown up in other images.:)

Wish there were more car shots like these in the box. Good old Franz took about 140 or so cheesecake slides that didn't have cars in them, so they'd be O/T here...:D
