I got 2 nice wide 5 wheels for cheap, found the Hudson wheel I've been searching years for.
Also got a 2gc carb for $5, and new brake shoes and all related parts for my 9" rear for $20.
Also sold a ton of stuff, so I'm happy!

I would walk by a item and say “ What a good deal that is but I don’t need it”. Nowadays I see a deal buy it resell mostly on the auction site and it has supported my hobby without hitting the household funds. It keeps the wife happy too. Happy wife and Hot Rod life. I got it all.

I have picked up some cool stuff at the swap meet over the years. 39 trans with LZ gears was my best score for $100.00 and that’s in the car.

Some stuff I buy for my car and some stuff I buy to resell. I have built every car, bought every part and piece of shop equipment I have since the early 80’s by buying and selling cars and parts.

I haven’t used one cent of my weekly income on the cars or garage but that’s what works for me and my family.

  11. All good stuff, let me brag a little. I picked up or I should say my son-in-law picked up a 292Y block over the weekend for me for $100, I got some time to look it over and it is a truck motor with the truck pan and truck front mount. I pulled the valve covers and it has fresh oil up in the top end ( a good thing for Y blocks) It may even have a steel crank and the heaver truck rods. But the best thing is I took some junk to the s**** yard to make room for this and got $66 for the s****. so the motor and trans cost $34! not a bad weekend!
I do have to get rid of the 4 speed truck transmission.

About 15 years ago, I was attending the Amherst NH swap meet. I usually stay away from the profession middle men and stick with the guys selling their extra parts out of the back of their pick up trucks. Well this one time, a guy dress and a polo shirt and dress slacks had a 1930 Ford 4 door sedan sitting on the U-Haul trailer located in the high rent area. I took a quick look and move on. The guy follow me and asked me if I would be interested in the old Ford. I told him I would take a p*** on it. I think I walk past it several more time before noon and every time he would asked me if I wanted it. Well on my last time, heading for the parking lot to go home, I p*** it again and the guy came over and asked me to just take a look. So I am standing there looking at the "all surface rusted" 1930 four door Ford. He asked me where do I live, told him Middleton, NH, he says, hey I go by there and I can drop it off for you. So I asked him, what do you value this car at, what is it worth to him. He says that the car came with a house that he just brought, wife wants it out. He tried selling it via the newspaper but no calls. Rented a U-Haul and borrow a truck with all the hope that he would sell it that morning. How about 500 dollars he says. I am thinking "too easy" so I climb all over it, rust is my biggest concern. Surface rust no holes, so I said OK. Well he is following me the 2 hour ride to my home and I am thinking, what am I going to do with a four door. Well we get to my house and I asked him to back up to the garage door. After about 20 minutes or going back and forth., he gets piss off and pulls back out into the street. Where do you want it, in the garage, he yells, I say yea. He climbs up the trailer unhooks the car (I help) gets in the car starts it up and drives it in the garage.
Now you are probably wondering if I just "flip" this car. I hired a few kids to sand the surface rust off the car, which they got most of it except for the rust in the pits, taped it up and gave it a coat of primer. You know, I also had a hard time selling it, it was the 4 door thing (advertise in Uncle Henry's).

Mid 80s I could find all kinds of parts for my 47 Olds. Bought everything I found till the cash ran out. Cornered the market on sheet metal. I wish I had tried even harder back then cause I wont even see a tail light these days. But its like estate sales and swap meets. You never know whats there unless you put in the time. Deals are still out there and now I either buy for art work making or to flip Ive gotten dozens and dozens of super deals at sales.

Good lead into : Rhinebeck Swapmeet this weekend!!!!!

Man, I think I'd drive the wheels off a $500 4-door while I finish my other cars.

I am pretty sure so, yes.

    Where's here at?

Not a swap meet item, but off of CL yesterday. This nice solid built 40 Standard/Truck grill was listed under 1944 Ford. It's much better than the one that came with my truck 37 years ago and with no new ones on the horizon, nor could I afford a new one, got this one for $100.

You have to remember driving a four door car was like taking you Mom's 65 Chevy Bel Air four door to the prom, it was not something you wanted to do, back then. I remember a guy had a Nova station wagon (65 or 66), four door, 283, 4 speed, and the guys installed a baby car seat in the back seat, just before we was to take out some girl for the first time. That was a short date.

Typo, that's an old Argentina repro grille. They are the only ones who made them out of steel. Ford's and the modern repros are cast. Good deal though.

    I've related this story before:
Ok, I was set up to vend next to this guy and I noticed a lot of foot traffic..guys looking at a 3rd member lying on a blue tarp. It was marked 55-57 chevy....$50. Then I noticed it wasn't a chevy at all but it was a 57-64 Pontiac/Olds!
Quick like a bunny I zipped over for a better look.....4:88s with a posi carrier. I couldn't get my $50 out quick enough! Paid the man and carried it over to my area. I made up a new sign saying what it was and put $500 on it.
One of the guys that had been looking at it before I bought it came to me and said "I THOUGHT it was a Pontiac but wasn't sure...I'm building a 55 chevy g***er and need that 3rd member".
About then a gust of Nebraska wind came through and damned neart filled that greasy pig full of dirt. I sold it to him for $450.
Another time I was just pulling up in the dark to vend behind another vendor when I spy in my headlights the guy unloading a pair of E&J headlights. I jammed on the brakes and leaped out of my Rocky Goodtime Van [TM] to see another guy handing the schmuck a $50 bill!!!!!! He and I talked off and on through the day and I ended up buying a 38 Willys sedan converted to a pickup for $250

$400 with a butchered pinion support made me cringe though
