I thought it was stock hood that was smoothed out.. The Olds headlights look like they should have been there from the factory. Very Kool ride!

I try to follow along and stay updated on this thread at least every few days, so it came as a surprise to scroll down this page and see that you had posted a photo of my ride earlier today. Thanks Mick ... :)
When Paul from Brisbane drives in tomorrow, offer him a Foster's. He'll get a pretty good laugh out of it. I promise ... ;)

  18. @brewsir is a good dude. I miss him being on the HAMB all the time like back in the old days. He always had a knack for building some really cool customs. I had the pleasure of meeting him in person and sitting and talking customs for a little while back in Paso in '03. Man that was a long time ago now!
I remember watching the thread when he put the subtle 2 inch chop on the '57 wagon. That car is so cool!

He also built a sweet Mercury four door turned Carson top coupe..........

And my personal favorite, the "Batfink". I remember reading his threads about when it was sold and taken back east to New Jersey. I never thought he'd sell it--it truly was a member of his family.

I'm glad to report it's still around living up in Canada. If I'm not mistaken, this is what it looks like today. E

Thanks for the premium Purple Packard pics fellas, don’t know why I don’t remember seeing that one before. It may have been when Chic let my subscription lapse there. LoL!

Now you gotta tell me about the candy caddy(?) there in that pic too bro!

Color does look better....in the 70's - 80's hot rod magazines the b&w pictures were not of good quality especially when they used there pictures in other magazines... I liked the old green pages of the 50's magazines...of course in person is the best....

  25. Mike Garner's "Trilogy" Cadillac

    Mike Garner
    Livermore, CA
    1948 Cadillac

In viewing the Custom of the Year finalists, there’s no missing the skilled lineage shared between these cars, and Mike Garner’s ’48 Cadillac is certainly no exception. Having originally been chopped and channeled by custom legend Dick Dean 16 years ago, and designed, in part, by none other than Steve Stanford, it’s no wonder these stylish contours have found their way here.

Originally called the ‘Colorado Cad’, the body shell sat unfinished for 15 years, until Dean’s son, Keith “Kid” Dean came on board to finish up in more recent times. From there the rear portion of Stanford’s flowing concept was built upon with entirely new frontal contours taking the car in an exciting new direction.

Every aspect of the nose, hood and front fenders surrounding the custom grille has become a smooth rendition of what once was to what is truly unique unto itself, including the front fender radiuses, the side trim, and so many other tastefully crafted details. To gain its low stance, the body was channeled considerably, with myriad changes necessary to unite these modifications with the chassis functions. To make the most of the fine lines, Ritchie Valles applied House of Kolor candy apple red over a gold base with Murano Pearl finishing things off, and as you can see its depth and richness cannot be denied.

    [IMG] [IMG]

A complete yet modified ’88 Cadillac chassis was fitted with air bags all around, enabling an ideal stance at a standstill, as well as adequate ground clearance on the road, where the Vintique wire wheels and U.S. Royal wide whitewall tires apply forces of a 350 Chevy mated to a 200R4 automatic transmission. Breathing through four Weber DCOE downdraft carburetors, the Edelbrock heads enable flow and compression before venting spent the mixture via a specially built exhaust system running from each cylinder before uniting toward the back in four separate units creating its own unique sound. This thing is loud!

Sitting comfortable in the 6-way Caddy leather seating, the driving experience is unique, to say the least, with a leather adorned ’54 Mercury gauge cluster surrounding by beautiful chrome mesh incorporated in the door panels and centralized waterfall leading to a vintage GTO shifter and custom armrest.

Beyond these details are many elements celebrating the essence of automotive vision Garner has specialized in for decades.
