Geez Jim you did not give me much time to respond!! LOL

It is an interesting story. Cunningham was a man who I would like to have met. The ultimate sportsman?

Great history and pictures everyone. Enjoy this thread a lot.

I know Offset, I was tired and wanted to call it a night so I figured I would just answer my own question. I am a huge fan of Briggs Cunningham and love his early hot rods that he built and raced at Le Mans. Funny thing is that one of my passions since the 70s has been auto racing during the teens (long story). I have researched the era and have file boxes full of semi useless info and have written a couple of articles on cars during the era (Mercer and Miller). I was researching the 1914 Grand Prix Mercedes and visited George Wingard who owns the 1914 French Grand Prix Mercedes that won at Lyons France just weeks before the onset of WWI. I knew that Briggs Cunningham had a 1914 GP Mercedes in his museum in SoCal (and I was living in San Marcos Ca.) at the time and thought if possible I wanted to come and see their car (never got there-sadly).

I called the museum and made some inquiries and thought I would get some girl in the office or whatever but I ended up talking to Mr. Cunningham myself. Kind of threw me back and I never expected it and it may have had me a bit star struck but he was very cordial and we spoke about racing for a short time and I told him I admired all he had achieved and he told me he would have Tom Milton III who apparently worked there at the time (mid 80s) get back to me. Tom Milton III did get back to me and we spoke although it was probably one of the most frustrating conversations I have had with a so called expert-it did not go well. The funny thing is I had an inspection report signed by his famous grandfather while he worked at Packard in the 30s and was contemplating sending it to him but after our conversation I put it away. The one HAMBer that would know of what I speak was Bluto and we had a bit of a conversation on TMIII. Sadly it kind of discolored my judgment of his famous grandfather Tom Milton.

It would have been great to say the least if I had been able to visit the museum and maybe even meet Briggs Cunningham but my short conversation will have to do as a highlight.

When I get some time I will try to put together something on the 1960 effort of Cunningham (and other race Vettes as well).

Hey all! I finally got my old 65 running after 3 years laid up in the garage. I'd forgotten how fun it is to drive! That L-79 327 , Muncie 4 speed and Hurst shifter keeps the smile on your face!

Enloe, I dig the cruise-in pics. I hope you don't mind that I cropped and cleaned them up a little.
Now I can focus on the cars and not the people or things around them.

Very cool. I have got mine running but I haven't been able to drive it yet need tires and insurance and exhaust. it will happen soon. I had hoped to take it to Bowling Green in june for the Hot Rod Reunion but I don't think the funds will be there.

    Cool it doesn't bother me:)

You took one of my pics out because it had billet wheels. If I am not mistaken it had 2 corvettes in it. The 2nd one didn’t.

That’s cool that was why I posted it.
