My wife was at the Casino playing Baccarat in a tourney so there was no one to man the camera. I'm kind of glad to not have that first moment on tape, I doubt I was smiling. I was listening for noises (like you can hear anything over that flathead and those mufflers), I wanted to run through a few gears at low speed to make sure the trans and TOB were working, keeping an eye on both temp gauges and I had to drive exactly one mile to calibrate the speedometer. Too much for a video moment.

I picked out three colors of distressed leather that the upholsterer is getting larger samples of. One color is dark brown, I know I am using that one. The other two are lighter, contrasting leathers that will form the seat insert and door panels. This will be a stylish gents interior, if a picture had a smell-think pipe tobacco.

I sent more texts than Kanye West when I got it back home. Now you couldn't wipe the smile off my face with 80 grit. I let her cool down a bit and then I ran it around once more. Now I was gaining confidence. My neighborhood is a small gated joint and has 3 cul-de-sacs, no blocks or side streets. I had to get use to the turning radius pretty quick and although it aint no trans am it still turns pretty well. The tires up front were low about 10 pounds just from sitting around, before the second trip I took them to 34 pounds. The turning was much easier at the wheel and the ride was good, I will know more at highway speed.

The car is licensed and titled already (has been for years) as well as Hagerty insured during the entire build. However, I had a buddy chuck up my license backing plate in his mill to engine turn it for me (I like giving him some hot rod money since he is a retired machinist). He still isn't done with it! I need it to mount my plate and marker lights so I can drive it legal like on the roads. Unfortunately, my little subdivision empties out onto a 4 lane 60 MPH highway two blocks away so you go from slow-go to go-go fast. And there is a state trooper station one light away to complicate things further.

^^^^^I will keep that in mind! I must have had 50 projects on this car that rolled across his Bridgeport mill. I design it, he builds it.
Another guy down the street does my flowjetting. Which reminds me, he still has a project of mine that I created to trim the holes around my pedals. I have a call to make.

Son you need this. I do not have enough intelligence to make the pic larger. It is a brass shifter knob. This & a Crown Royal sack will finish it off. Made some place where frybrian48 lives. I'm pretty sure it is made from brass & not cheese.

I can and will say that I've been following this since day one and have read every post. It's been a very interesting journey and I'm glad you let us come along.

And about that first drive around the block: I think it's safe to say that whether the car is a Riddler/AMBR contender or something put together with a low budget and lots of sweat the exhilaration of the first drive just can't be beat by anything outside of the bedroom.

I cut down that Bell frame to fit my plate and welded it back up and polished it...And painted to match my car.

Pretty clean, in Washington one time registration YOM is good for eternity. Done!

Landing lights on

Close tolerance. I used 32 front spreader tag mounts and machined out to fit the 34 rear spreader bar. It is tight but clears the 32 tank...by microns.

Reverse light on...why the hell not! The pipes are not to my liking, looks like I have some welding and powder coating ahead on one of the rear hangers. WTH, if it was easy, every one would do it.
She's legal and ready for some road work. My wife's birthday (OT. 1969) is tomorrow so probably no update. I am ready for some seat time. Stay tuned to at this bat time at this bat channel.

 

I know this is presumptuous of me but will someone photo shop the tail pipes about 4"-5" out board of the license plate for Bandit!

 

I was thinking about dropping the right pipe to match the left. I have drank my self goofy trying to line them up. My exhaust gut even cam over and tried to fix it, he swears it was even when it left the shop. I cant get them even no matter what I try. I still have 2 connecting rods left. I figure I need to measure and do some welding.

 

Don't make me look threw all your pages! What page of this thread is your exhaust "build" on?
Read this when you sober up:
If you only want to alter one tailpipe you could slice and dice in the middle of the last rod hanger, weld, grind, bolt rod back together.
If you want to alter both and change the "drop" slice both in same place the rod.
Done nicely and no need for re powder coating!
Erase your last couple posts and nobody would know!

Dude, I have no idea. I built the hangers from left over 8BA connecting rods. I used mandrel bent pipes and had Russ Meeks ceramic coat everything. The hangers are attached to bungs I welded to the frame. I know I did a thread on that but I cant remember the name. 4 connecting rods hang the smithy mufflers and 2 hang the tail pipes. All are connected via V band clamps.

cryin shame to cover this up

 

This was his first attempt at engine turning, I needed to have him practice on something before having him tackle the shifter console I built.

I had him match the size and spacing used in my dash insert. Ill polish that plate up this weekend and put him back to work. I was going to do the underside of that M/C cover but I decided just to polish it since no one is likely ever to see it...still has to be polished.

I'm losing a bearing in my polisher, it doesn't have many more pieces left in it.

 

I love the look of the pipes mounted inboard under the tank, @brigrat and @Stogy you have good eyes. The problem is that 16 gallon 32 tank hanging under the back end. It is hard to show in pictures on my phone right now but this will help.

You can see the tailpipes (kind of, they are reflecting the garage door, follow the pipes) going over the axle and running out alongside the tank through a cavity I created when I made the wider brackets to adapt the 32 tank to my 34 frame. If they ran out under the tank, "A" they would be considerably lower than they are now to clear and "B" there would be no place to add the hangers. Also the hefty QC takes up a lot of real estate back there and the tank is notched around it. It wasn't easy running that left pipe over the axle, under the panhard rod and between the shock and the tank. I think they are where they have to be but I do need to cut, weld ceramic coat a new hanger to level them out.

I think I am going to lower the right pipe to match the left after viewing the photoshop pics.

 

@Bandit Billy drop the right pipe to balance out the situation drive it have fun and give the other position some thought as it will take some engineering to fulfill that correctly.

If balanced out the your positioning looks just fine as your original plan...

I just went off Brigrat's instruction which also works but as you said kinda big on the execution. Enjoy your summer sooner and its really looks fine as is in my opinion.
