Aren't garage floors supposed to be square? Chalk marks on the concrete have always worked in the past.

  3. That should work because most tracks are mostly uneven.

When you unleash that hemi on a track with grip nothing will be square anymore anyway.

You'd be surprised how much rigidity the cage will add. Once it's all tied together, it's like a truss.

    Still plugging away at it.

I've been working on the cage, getting it all to fit. I did some measuring when the body was in place, so I know where things have to be. I'm using hose clamps and little strips of metal to hold the joints together, while I make the next piece fit. Eventually it will be together enough to tack it all, then weld it.

the two seats sit right next to each other, in the same position, so I was just using the pass side seat to see where things are. Later this evening, I installed the brackets on the other seat and bolt it in, too. Then removed both of the seats.

but while I had only the pass seat in, Dan (my Drag Week copilot) stopped by, and got a feel for the car...

  16. Jim I use kirky seats. They offer a foam lumbar support and butt padding. It makes a big difference not only in comfort but how you look through the windshield. It boosted me up some yet still low enough for cage clearance. It was worth every penny I paid for it.

I use a cheap hole saw type tubing notcher, and then some careful grinding to get the fit right.

keeps the motor from moving front to rear. The block flange goes between the two pieces.

  23. This configuration wouldn't appear to be terribly accommodating for a navigator/co-pilot. :(

Other than that, hell yes!

I guess I could figure out how to do full track burnouts? :)

anyways, been tinkering with the steering, I shortened the column and added a smaller wheel. I also played with the steering box mount, made some new parts, and tacked them in place. I ordered parts to connect it all together.

And started on the pass side fender. I decided the method I was using on the driver side fender wasn't going to work too well, so I did this side a little different, and I'll redo the driver side with the other fender I have. (the car came with an extra pair of fenders). A little slicing and dicing, and I might be able to make it fit a little better.

  26. Jim, Are you using the tig for the sheet metal too? How's that working, so far?

I gave it a try, then went back to MIG...sorry.

  28. I'd probably end up doing the same thing. Never owned a MIG but have used them..Never on body work though.

got the fender tacked together, for the first look...it's close, but needs a little adjusting. I think I'll move the opening up into the fender about half an inch, and I also messed up and made the big filler panel an inch too long, so I'll shorten it. I want the wheel to be a bit forward in the opening, for that racy look. Also I need to play with the lines, the top has a hump in it, it needs to flow better. There are all kinds of strange curves in car bodies, that you don't really notice until you add straight pieces to them.

That's for sure . On that 62 Tempest I had, there wasn't a flat panel anywhere on the cars. Air board /files don't work too well on them either.
