Someone should ask Mark Morarty about what gets in and what doesn’t

I was there today from 9am to about 6pm. Awesome cars, over 11,000 of them pre registered. Lots of Hamb friendly cars and lots of not so friendly. Most of them seem to be built to high standards, not much junk there. And only a few Rat Rods.

Spent some quality time there today.
The show never gets old. Always something to see on each block.
There are always those who will comment either about what's allowed in or too many non traditional rides etc etc.
11,000-12,000 cars in one place and none newer than 1964.
Think about that for a minute.
If a person can't find enough cars to keep them smiling all day then that person must be one unhappy SOB.

There is a bit of sensory overload that happens.
Usually more severe for first timers.

    ^^^^^ True statement.
A couple of buddies and I made it there yesterday (Friday) and while they parts-shopped I grabbed my camera gear and walked. You can link to my photo gallery here:
    http://www.terrysgarage.com/p786747557
Just be advised that it's not all totally HAMB appropriate stuff 'cuz I have a lot of interests in other facets of the automotive spectrum too. I didn't spend as much time there as I'd have liked to but my ride was leaving and I didn't feel like walking 180 miles home!
It really was a perfect day. And it was great to finally meet you @Speed~On
Sorry I missed seeing your dad, tell him I said "Hey" and maybe we'll see you guys at the Meltdown. :D

So I was told that the link to the photo gallery I posted above doesn't come up as mobile-friendly? The desktop version comes up on my phone when I click that link so I dunno what's up. If it helps, when I type in the web address in my signature below (terrysgarage-dot-com) and click Recently Added, the mobile friendly version does come up at least on my Android phone.
Man, I think a good share of the computer stuff I mess with is well above my pay grade.... I should maybe stick to old cars.

Thanks. I think I should spend more time on here so I know how stuff is supposed to work, but then I'd get even less done than I do now!! ;)

Well the good news for me is that the HemiCoupe made it the 100+ mile round trip to back to the 50's, plus about 1/2 hour of idling, creeping through the streets of the event. This was it's maiden voayage, because it had only gone 10 mile so far since I "finished" it last weekend.

My plan was to work on it thurseday night getting everything ready, then leave home at 4:00 am. But thursday night after work I was so exhausted, I couldn't think straight. I was just spinning my wheels trying to get ready. So I decided not to go on friday, spend the day working on the car, then go saturday so I headed for bed early. But when I woke up friday morning, I had a new outlook. All I could think about was Back to the 50's! So I headed out to the shop and got the car ready, and left for BTT50's at 7:30 am. I hit some slow commuter traffic, but who cares, I was driving a hot rod! By the time I got in the gate, all the miles of on street parking was full. So I wheeled over to the overflow lot which is gravel, and it was near full, but I saw a paved spectator/vendor parking lot that BTTF cars were starting to park in, so I went and parked there to avoid the gravel dust. It was not a good place to be in on the action and have people walking past to talk to, so I headed off on foot and enjoyed the show, met up with a bunch of people I know, bought 1 tool and 1 part, and ogled thousands of cool cars.

Then I received a call from my office, (friday is a work day, after all) they had a girl in there that wanted a job, and they wanted to hire her, but I needed to do an interview and make the final decision. I said to have her come back next week, but they really wanted her and were afraid she'd find a another job over the weekend. So they sent her to Back to the 50's, and she met me at my car and we sat in the lawn chairs and talked, then I hired her! Is that a BTT50's first? BTW, she noticed that there were no Mustangs, so she pays attention to cars.

I hung around until about 7:30 pm and then headed home.

The coupe ran cool, started good hot or cold, drove decent, and my to-do list got some great feedback.
The MInnesota State Fairgrounds is a perfect venue for this, the weather was perfect, there was so many cool cars, and like others have said it is impossible to comprehend it all or see it all. What a great hobby we have!

  20. And for the story of getting there, the two cars in the club made it just fine all three days. It's the first time my buddy and I remember both old cars gettign in under their own power every day! That's my Biscayne in front, with the club-owned Ranchero behind it. Still a long way to go on the Ranchero...

Can't say the same for this guy...

The past 2 weeks have been pretty crazy for me. I've had a slight delay in posting my Back To The 50's coverage as I currently have a lot of irons in the fire.
The 45th Annual Back To The 50's was absolutely incredible. As other HAMBers have posted, it was a fantastic time.

Thursday morning we picked up our Registration Packet at the south pickup location in Eagan.

The forecast for the weekend couldn't have been better. Early Friday morning it was time to fire up the hot rods and head to St. Paul. Watching the sun rise while cruising to the coolest damn show around will bring a smile to any hot rodders face.

Trying not to wake people as I warmed the engine.

Shortly after 6am we rolled through the main gate...as did 12,000 other cars! Here are some photos I took Friday.

This '32 Ford was built in the 60's by close family friends of ours, the late Bob Mcginley (Mr. Tuneup) as he was known in the Twin Cities. Now owned by his son Mike.

This Model A was killer! I spoke to the elderly gentleman who owns the car. He shared the cars history. It has 50,000 original miles and the body is solid with no rust or patch panels. He is the 2nd owner of the car.

Saturday with the fairgrounds filled end to end with 12,000 cars and 100,000 people the announcer had everyone stop and remove thier hats. The National Anthem was sung as WWII planes performed fly overs.
